Tuffy the bear, bile farm

Tuffy the black bear is overjoyed to have his freedom after spending his life being tortured in a cage on a bile farm.

Bile, extracted from gall bladders, is thought to have ancient healing powers and is used in traditional Chinese medicines.

You can see his joy while splashing in a pond on his first day at Animal Asia Tam Dao Rescue Center in Vietnam. That is one happy bear – look at him play:

Louise Ellis, Bear Manager at the center said:

Coming from years of little or no water, for Tuffy this must feel like a true oasis after being parched and in pain for so long…on the hard metal bars of the bile farm cage.

Sadly, Tuffy’s gall bladder had to be removed because it was so damaged from the painful and debilitating bile extraction. He also had three fractured teeth and dry, cracked paws when he arrived at the sanctuary, according to the rescue shelter.

Despite his traumatic past, Tuffy is now happier than ever, which is clear in the video of him splashing about in his new home.

Please share this story if it made you smile to see Tuffy so happy!
