President Obama isn’t known for showing respect for people who don’t support him. After all, this is the man who sent more people from the administration to Trayvon Martin and Mike Brown’s funerals than Margaret Thatcher’s.
He also failed to attend or even send a dignified replacement to Paris after the attack there last year, as world leaders gathered in solidarity against Islamic terrorism. Instead, the administration sent James Brown to sing a song about being a friend.
And after Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia suddenly passed away, President Obama continued his theme of disrespect. Obama made comments about Scalia’s death in a very disheveled manner that can only be described as a mess.
Obama didn’t even wear a necktie during what appeared to be obligatory remarks about Scalia’s legacy. The President’s shirt was even buttoned down. Obama stumbled through without appearing to be respectful or sorrowful for Scalia’s family. After all, he did give his speech after playing golf for five hours.
The dynamics of the Supreme Court will immediately change. Scalia was a champion of the written constitution. Obama interprets the constitution in an activist manner, bending it to meet his needs. Given his lack of respect for those who disagree with him, perhaps we should just be pleased that he wasn’t eating cake and drinking champagne during his remarks on Scalia’s death.
Who do you think Obama will nominate to the Supreme Court? Please join the discussion.
