In the late-90s and early-00s, Brendan Fraiser was picked to be the next big action star and leading man. He was one of the most sought-after men in Hollywood, but he disappeared virtually overnight. Fraser’s rise and fall is an all too familiar story in Hollywood, but thankfully there is some hope and light at the end.
Brendan Fraser’s Early Career
Brendan Fraser starred in a few screwball comedians like Airheads and George of the Jungle before making it big as the star of The Mummy franchise.
The Mummy Series generated over $1.2 billion at the box office and made Fraser a household name and a bonafide action star.

Flops
But Fraser starred in a few flops, including Inkheart and Monkeybone.
I seen some people talking about Brendan Fraser lately & I felt like hyping the under-rated classic Monkeybone starring him cus I DONT ever see people talking about it. It has some of the most crazy cool art direction I’ve seen in a movie from that era. pic.twitter.com/hPkM6NGARK

Sabbatical & “Blacklisted”
Brendan Fraser retreated from the spotlight for a few years, mainly doing animated or foreign films. In an interview with GQ, Fraser claimed that he was blacklisted in Hollywood after being sexually harassed by the President of the Hollywood Foreign Press.
We ready to talk about how Brendan Fraser’s career got fucked because he was sexually harassed and chose not to be silent about it? https://t.co/ZXNeqd6Jt5

Fraser recounts being groped by former HFPA president Philip Berk, an incident that Fraser said left him traumatized, blaming himself.
But still, Fraser says, “I became depressed.” He started telling himself he deserved what had happened to him. “I was blaming myself and I was miserable—because I was saying, ‘This is nothing; this guy reached around and he copped a feel.’ That summer wore on—and I can’t remember what I went on to work on next.”
Fraser’s career would fizzle, and he would retreat from the spotlight and Hollywood in general.
