It’s that time again as another spinoff gets axed. After just one season, NBC has decided to cancel the spinoff Suits LA before its season finale airs. The show is headlined by Stephen Amell, first premiering in February and running for just 13 episodes.

Suits LA was a spinoff of the long-running series Suits, and had high expectations. Unfortunately, viewership has remained low, leading NBC to make the decision to cut future seasons.

Synopsis of “Suits LA”

The spinoff focuses on Ted Black (Amell), a former federal prosecutor from New York who has turned himself around by representing elite clients in Los Angeles. However, his firm is at a crisis point, and Ted must embrace a new role he had always held in contempt.

New characters surround the seasoned lawyer, twisting professional and personal lives together, all while viewers finally see what happened to Ted in New York.

Amell was joined by Lex Scott Davis, Josh McDermitt, Bryan Greenberg, Troy Winbush, Rachelle Goulding, Azita Ghanizada, Maggie Grace, and Alice Lee. Matt Letscher, Sofia Pernas, and Maggie Grace have recurring roles.

Guest stars included John Amos, Victoria Justice, Patton Oswalt, Yvette Nicole Brown, Brian Baumgartner, and Enrico Colantoni.

Audience Reactions

While some fans have loved Suits LA and are sad to see it go, even calling for another streaming service to pick up the show, others have had the opposite reaction.

Some viewers have critiqued the rushed production and diving into characters before getting a true introduction, while others are disgruntled with poor writing and acting. Many have gone on popular social media platforms such as X, but there are a few fighting for the series, too.

One particular fan on X wrote: “I’m going to be reasonable about Suits: LA. I’m not going to whine and complain like everybody else is about the lack of the original characters. When the original show started, I would bet that people definitely didn’t know or care at first about the characters.”

Plus, it wasn’t only the fans begging other viewers to go in with an open mind. Suits creator Aaron Korsch also took to social media posting, “It seems like people are all wishing it was the originals back. I expected this and can’t blame them. I can only hope they give #SuitsLA an open-minded try. If they do, I really believe they will grow to love it.”

Other NBC Cancelations

Suits LA is not the only show getting the axe, either. NBC needed to make space for basketball coverage next season under NBCUniversal’s $2.5B/year deal with the NBA, so four other shows have also been canceled. These include The Irrational and Found, and comedies Night Court and Lopez vs Lopez.

While the viewership may not have been high for Suits LA, it’s still unfortunate to see a new series get canceled. Fans of the spinoff are heartbroken, but if the numbers aren’t right, TV shows like this one follow a similar pattern: premiere and drop.
