Fans of the long-running police procedural Blue Bloods are feeling very excited right now after star Donnie Wahlberg indicated that the show may not be completely done after all.

Wahlberg Hints At Blue Bloods Spinoff

Back in June, Blue Bloods filmed its final episodes after CBS cancelled the show, following a run that lasted fourteen years. This left the program’s 79 year-old star Tom Selleck devastated, and he spent months trying to save the show.

Now, however, it seems that Blue Bloods may not be quite done yet after all.

“Well, we filmed the apparent last season of Blue Bloods, and it’ll air starting in October. Maybe there’ll be something else after that,” Wahlberg, 54, told TV Insider. “I don’t know anything officially yet, but there’s things in the works. So maybe something awesome will happen.”

Potential Blue Bloods Spinoff

This comes two months after Paramount Global Co-CEO Brian Robbins hinted that a Blue Bloods spinoff could be in development.

“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions and Blue Bloods,” Robbins said while presenting at Paramount Global’s annual stockholders meeting.

Spinoffs for both Billions (Millions) and Dexter (Dexter: Origins) have already been announced. However, at the time of this writing, no Blue Bloods spinoff has been confirmed.

Blue Bloods premiered back in 2010, with Selleck starring in it as the fictional NYPD Commissioner Frank Reagan. The show also tells the stories of Frank’s father, Henry Reagan (Len Cariou), and his children: Erin (Bridget Moynahan), Danny (Wahlberg) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes).

CBS announced back in November of 2023 that it was cancelling Blue Bloods. The final eight episodes of the show are set to start airing in October.

Selleck’s Fight To Save Blue Bloods

Selleck has been opened up about how saddened he was by the Blue Bloods cancellation.

“CBS will find an awful lot of people aren’t ready to say goodbye to it,” Selleck told TV Insider back in January. “The show’s more popular than ever, and I think [numbers] will increase with the interest this year.”

“We’re certainly not out of ideas. I’m not counting the days so I can do something else,” he added.

Selleck doubled down on this in May, when he revealed he was still hoping that CBS would change their minds about Blue Bloods.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” the former Magnum P.I. star told CBS News at the time. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back.”

“And I can tell you this: We aren’t sliding off down a cliff,” he continued. “We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Selleck then suggested that he is in danger of losing his 63-acre California ranch if Blue Bloods really ends.

“You know, hopefully I keep working enough to hold on to the place,” Selleck lamented. “That’s always an issue. If I stopped working, yeah. Am I set for life? Yeah, but maybe not on a 63-acre ranch!”

Blue Bloods is one of the few shows on television that promotes both family values and American law enforcement. We can only hope that a spinoff of the beloved show truly is in the works!
