Rumors have been swirling this week that Tom Brady is preparing to come out of retirement for a second time and make yet another return to the NFL. Now, the former Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback is speaking out to respond to these rumors.

Brady Rumors Swirl

People Magazine reported that during his show on Monday, the NFL Network anchor Rich Eisen claimed that he’s been hearing rumblings that Brady may be making another NFL return.

“Number one rumor I heard at the [NFL] Combine? Not in terms of chatter, but this one just blew my mind: Tom Brady may not be done after all,” Eisen said.

“A couple people were just like, ‘Hang on, just you wait.’ And I’m like, ‘He’s Instagramming out [pictures] of his cat, you know?,'” he continued. “But it doesn’t look like he’s getting big and fat, does it? Let it play out. Let’s see who wants what.”

Eisen went on to say that “folks are saying keep an eye out” for Brady to potentially sign with the Miami Dolphins, whose current quarterback Tua Tagovailoa missed several games last season due to concussions.

“If somehow, some way, a doctor’s report [is published], a medical evaluation of Tua [Tagovailoa] that he may not be ready to go, suddenly there’s Tom Brady sitting in Florida where his family is located and where he can easily locate himself,” Eisen concluded.

Brady Shoots Down Rumors

Brady, however, has since fired back to shoot down these rumors.

“Anyone who thinks I have time to come back to the NFL has never adopted a 2 month old kitten for their daughter,” he tweeted on Tuesday afternoon.

Dolphins General manager Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel have also since confirmed that Tagovailoa will be their starting quarterback for the next season.

“It’s important to recognize that we have a congruence of interest by the Dolphins and the player,” McDaniel told ESPN. “That both parties really want him to play at a very high level for a long time for the Miami Dolphins.”

Brady’s Retirement History

It would not be unheard of for Brady to come out of retirement, however, because that is exactly what he did last year. He initially announced his retirement from the NFL in early 2022, only to change his mind weeks later and play another season with the Buccaneers.

Last month, Brady announced his retirement for a second time in a video posted to his social media pages.

“I’ll get to the point right away: I’m retiring for good,” Brady said in the video. “I know the process was a pretty big deal last time, so when I woke up this morning I figured I’d just press record and let you guys know first. So I won’t be long-winded.”

“I think you only get one super-emotional retirement essay, and I used mine up last year,” he continued. “So, really, thank you guys, so much, to every single one of you, for supporting me. My family, my friends, teammates, my competitors, I could go on forever, there’s too many. Thank you, guys, for letting me live my absolute dream. I wouldn’t change a thing. Love you all.”

Given Brady’s history of un-retiring, it’s not surprising that there have been rumors that he may be pulling that move again. It will certainly be interesting if he does come out of retirement for a second time, but his statement makes it look like that won’t be happening after all.
