Yesterday, we reported that the legendary comedian Jay Leno had been released from the burn center nine days after he suffered serious burns in a gasoline fire. Hours later, his good friend Tim Allen went on “The Tonight Show” to give an update on Leno, saying that the 72 year-old is refusing to take painkillers despite his major injuries.

Allen Gives Update On Leno

When Allen was asked about Leno by host Jimmy Fallon, he said compared his friend to the comic book character Deadpool, explaining that he “couldn’t feel pain.”

“I called him the day of the accident — our shops are close to each other. We play around with hot rods and stuff. And one of his mechanics called and said, ‘Jay’s been in a bad accident,'” recalled Allen, 69, according to Daily Mail.

“What do you do? He’s going to the hospital what am I’m going to do?” he continued. “All I can do is leave a message. He calls, like, back five minutes later. ‘Hey, Tim, what’s going on?'”

When Allen asked how he was doing, Leno told him that he was “burned all over, third degree burns on my hands, on my face, everything.”

‘He’s Not On Painkillers’

“He’s not on painkillers,” Allen added. “He said, ‘And I’m not on painkillers.’ ‘Why not?’ ‘Pain is there for a reason,’ ‘Okay. I think pain is there to tell you to take a painkiller isn’t that what it’s supposed to.'”

Allen then talked about visiting Leno at the Grossman Burn Center, where he underwent various skin surgeries over the past week.

“Went and saw him and he’s just an amazing human being,” Allen said. “He just wanted to get out of the hospital and he’s — it was one bit after another we sat and talked for a lot.”

Allen then referenced being interviewed about Leno by TMZ after their visit.

“I get interviewed and they said he’s — ‘He looks terrible.’ I said, ‘Well, he generally didn’t look that good to begin with,'” Allen joked. “Every comic said the same joke.”

“No Jay would love that,” Fallon replied.

“We were just riffing,” Allen added of their visit. “It was so stupid, he’s all bandaged up ‘Yeah, I’m not on painkillers. I don’t feel like no painkillers.'”

“I kept looking at him, I go, ‘Dude, could I use some? Because I’m in pain watching you,'” Allen joked.

Leno’s Fire

Leno was working on a steam engine under a 1907 White Steam Car in his garage in Burbank, California when the fire broke out on the afternoon of November 12. He had to be pulled from under the vehicle, and he was left with serious burn to his face and left hand.

“I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire,” Leno told Fox News afterwards. “I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.”

After spending just over a week undergoing various surgeries at the Grossman Burn Center, Leno was released on Monday afternoon.

“I am pleased with Jay’s progress, and I am optimistic that he will make a full recovery,” said Dr. Peter Grossman after his discharge.

Leno will still need to receive treatment for third degree burns in the coming weeks, but we’re thankful that he is well enough to spend Thanksgiving with his family. We’re also glad that he seems to have such a good friend in Allen, who appears to be one of the most standup guys in the entertainment world today.

Please join us in saying a prayer for Leno’s recovery in the weeks to come!
