Whoopi Goldberg is taking a shot at Meghan McCain one year after the conservative commentator left her post as the token Republican on the ABC talk show The View.

Goldberg Says ‘The View’ Is ‘Calmer’ Without McCain

Goldberg told Page Six that things have been less stressful on The View since McCain’s departure.

“It’s calmer because nobody wants to be that tired every day,” the 66 year-old Oscar-winner said.

McCain, 37, co-hosted the ABC talk show from October of 2017 until August of 2021. During her time as a member of the panel, she often clashed with co-hosts Joy Behar and Goldberg; both fairly opinionated liberals. Back in August, McCain revealed that it was Behar’s offensive reaction to her returning from maternity leave in January of last year that prompted her to leave the talk show.

“I finally went back to the show, and the day I went back to the show, Joy Behar said on air, ‘Nobody missed you, we didn’t miss you, you shouldn’t have come back,’” McCain said, adding that she went back to her office and threw up after hearing this. She then called her brother, who told her to quit the show.

McCain has been replaced this season by Ana Navarro (who claims to be a Republican but is really anything but that) and by former Trump White House communications director Alyssa Farrah Griffin. In a recent interview, Behar said outright that she thinks Farah Griffin will be a better presence on The View than McCain was.

“Alyssa’s got a whole different personality. So I think it will be smoother, frankly,” Behar told Entertainment Tonight. “I mean, I like both of them but I think this girl is going to do very well.”

McCain Calls Out Goldberg

McCain has also said that Goldberg was part of the reason why she left The View.

“The thing about Whoopi … is that she yields so much power in culture and television, and once she turns on you, it can create unfathomable tension at the table,” she wrote in an excerpt of her memoir — titled “Bad Republican” — that was exclusively published by Variety in October of 2021.

“I found her open disdain for me more and more difficult to manage as the years went on, and it became more frequent. Occasionally, if the show’s political discourse veered into territory that she found disagreeable, Whoopi would cut me off, sometimes harshly,” McCain continued.

Goldberg Doubles Down

Goldberg indicated in her latest interview that she did indeed feel that way.

“We’ve always had disagreements and stuff, but this one was a little bit different,” Goldberg explained. “I think [the show], it’s better. I feel it’s better, but I’m still tired!”

Goldberg went on to say that even her own daughter pointed out that she was making faces when McCain spoke.

“My daughter would say to me, ‘I can see your face!’ [And I would say], ‘OK, I’ll be better,’” she said.

Despite this, Goldberg claimed there was no arguing behind the scenes on The View.

“People felt like they wanted to go home,” she alleged. “There was no point in fighting. You do what you do and you go home and do what you love to do. And hopefully, everybody is now happier.”

Being the token conservative on The View is no easy task, as it means being ganged up on every day by loudmouth, ignorant liberals like Goldberg and Behar. Clearly, McCain really got under both of their skin, so she should consider her time on The View to be a victory for conservative women everywhere!
