Megan Rapinoe, who some hail as the Colin Kaepernick of women’s soccer, got bad news this week when it was revealed that nearly half of Americans surveyed want her dropped as brand ambassador by popular sandwich franchise Subway.
The survey followed calls by franchisees to boycott Subway unless it “fires” Megan Rapinoe from earlier this month.

American Survey Results On Subway And Megan Rapinoe
Piplsay studies brands and backlash. Specifically, they want to know “what do Americans think about celeb endorsements?”
A survey conducted by Piplsay found that a whopping 45% of Americans want Subway to drop Megan Rapine from their ads because of her anti-U.S. demonstrations that include her taking a knee during the national anthem.
The survey also found that 36% of Americans do not want to see Rapinoe be dropped, while 19% said they were unsure.
In addition, the survey concluded that 35% of Americans said that it “matters a lot” who the brand ambassador is for their favorite company, with 33% saying that it “does not matter at all” and 32% admitting that it “matters somewhat.”
The survey also found that 61% of men felt that the protest against Subway over Rapinoe is justified, while only 39% of women felt the same way.
“American fast-food chain Subway has been facing customer backlash and boycotts since its brand ambassador Megan Rapinoe took the knee during the National Anthem at the recently concluded Tokyo Olympics,” Piplsay reported.
“The vocal star, often referred to as the Colin Kaepernick of the women’s soccer world, has been deemed anti-American, prompting Subway franchisees across the country to demand a nixing of her TV ads.”
Just How Bad Is Megan Rapinoe’s Subway Survey?
The results of this Piplsay survey are particularly damning given it’s a fairly large sample for an opinion poll.
The sample size for an average poll is 1,000 however Megan Rapinoe’s nationwide Subway poll received over 30,000 responses in the US from people 18 and up between August 13-15, 2021.
The survey results really speak volumes. See for yourself:
Calls Go Out For Subway To Drop Megan Rapinoe
45th President Donald Trump called attention to the USWNT team’s surprising defeat in Tokyo. The team was expected to bring home Olympic gold and instead settled for bronze.
Trump specifically called out Rapinoe and her persistence with introducing social justice into her sport.

“If our soccer team, headed by a group of Leftist Maniacs, wasn’t woke, they would have won the Gold Medal instead of the Bronze,” Trump said. “The woman with the purple hair played terribly and spends too much time thinking about Radical Left politics instead of doing her job!”
Calls have grown for Subway to drop Rapinoe from their ads in the wake of her Tokyo Olympics performance and Trump’s comments.
This survey underscores just how many Americans feel that the soccer player should not be the face of the company.
It remains to be seen whether Subway will ultimately stand by Megan Rapinoe or decide that she is not a good look for their business.
