Robin Williams’ oldest child, Zak, and fiancée Olivia June welcomed their first child into the world on May 22 weighing 8 pounds and 20-1/2 inches long, according to a family rep. The boy’s birth makes Robin, posthumously, and his first wife, Valerie Velardi, grandparents for the first time.
Zak’s sister and newly-minted aunt, actress Zelda Williams, shared photos of the couple and the newborn they’ve named McLaurin Clement Williams, a sweet homage to his grandfather, Robin McLaurin Williams.
Hey, Mickey!
That’s quite the name for such a little guy, but the family reportedly calls him Mickey for short. He’ll definitely have a lot of fun watching Disney-based children’s programming with that name.
In 2014, Robin Williams committed suicide at home in California at the age of 63. Besides Zak, 35, and Zelda, 29, Williams has another son, Cody, 27.
After his death, Zak has become an outspoken mental health advocate, along with his other work as an entrepreneur and angel investor. Olivia June is the founder of a tech start-up and heads up the women-focused community connectivity app Hey! VINA.
Missing out on a fantastic grandpa.
It’s incredibly sad that Robin Williams’ grandchildren won’t get to grow up having him around, as Williams was known to the world as an energetic entertainer who pulled out all the stops to make people laugh.
“Someone who was very childlike in a lot of ways was awesome to have as a dad as a young kid,” Zak said in the 2018 documentary about Robin Williams.
“My dad wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty and jump in and play with kids but on their terms,” he continued.
Robin Williams would’ve surely enjoyed having more little kids to play with as he moved into his twilight years. While having their grandpa around would’ve been better, their grandfather thankfully left behind a body of work and impromptu performances that they can get to know and love as they get older.
