We previously reported that Carrie Underwood would be replacing Katy Perry as a judge on the next season of American Idol. Now, the first look at season 25 of American Idol has been released to the public.
First Look At Underwood As An American Idol Judge
Nineteen years after she won season four of American Idol back in 2005, Underwood joined her fellow judges Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and host Ryan Seacrest in an official photo for season 25 of the singing competition. This came after Perry left the show so that she could focus on her music career.
Back in August, Underwood opened up about what kind of judge she plans to be on American Idol. It’s a very interesting question, given she was on the other side of the judge’s table when she won them over.
“I like to think that I am versatile, and hopefully when I listen to people come in and audition, I can have any lens I need to put on as far as what kind of music I’m thinking,” she said at the time. “I think I can be honest and constructive but still kind, and I think that’s the whole point.”
Underwood, 41, went on to say that “people are coming in and, you know, it’s dreams, and you’re part of somebody’s story from that moment on.”
She would know!
“So I think it’s important to be honest but I think it’s also very important to be kind, so hopefully I can marry all of those together and be a good judge,” she explained.
Perry Leaves American Idol
Katy Perry had been a judge on American Idol since 2017, making a whopping $25 million per season. Underwood has Perry’s full support as her replacement.
“It’s going to be great,” Perry said back in August. “It’s a homecoming for Carrie, it’s a perfect match. I wouldn’t have picked actually anyone else.”
“They made the right decision; I think everyone’s going to be so excited,” she added. “Especially, the big fans of American Idol that have been along the journey.”

“We’ve got Carrie Underwood with us this year,” he continued. “And Carrie is — you know, like yesterday, we had a kid like, ‘I will work so hard,’ and Carrie was like, ‘I didn’t realize they would do this.’ …Carrie’s doing great. We’re having fun. …She knows exactly what all the kids are going through.”
