12 Years a Slave (2013) – One scene was a little too true to real-life
The tree where Solomon witnesses several men being lynched was eerily connected to the dark side of American history.
The tree itself had a dark past as its branches actually had been used for lynchings and the graves of several murdered slaves surrounded the tree. While grim, it helps lend to the realism of the movie.
