No Country for Old Men (2007) – The film has ties to a real-life crime

oscar winner facts

The movie itself is fiction, based on the excellent novel of the same name by Cormac McCarthy, but when Sheriff Bell refers to federal judge who was killed in San Antonio, this is in reference to an actual murder.

The movie is set in 1980 but in 1979, Federal Judge John H. Wood was murdered by a contract killer. Oddly enough, the hitman was Charles Harrison, father of actor Woody Harrelson, who plays a hitman in the film.
