A recent I&I/TIPP poll shows that the majority of Black Americans do not want to see Olympic protests like the one Gwen Berry carried out.

Last month, hammer thrower Gwen Berry turned away from the American flag while the national anthem played at the Olympic trials. She placed third behind first place DeAnna Price and Brooke Anderson.

Berry claimed “The Star Spangled Banner” is “racist” and that she was carrying out her protest for Black Americans.

Here’s a video of her protest and discussion:

Unfortunately for Berry, this move has since backfired on her.

Back Story: Hammer Thrower Gwen Berry Protests National Anthem At US Olympic Trials

Berry’s Protests Don’t Go Over Well

The poll conducted by TechnoMetrica Market Intelligence from June 30 through July 2 reveals that 79% of the American public say it’s important “for professional athletes to publicly respect the American flag on the international level.”

Making things even worse for Berry is the fact that the poll showed that 61% of Black Americans, a clear majority, do not want to see these types of protests at the Olympics.

A total of 69% of Hispanics agreed that it is important “for professional athletes to publicly respect the American flag on the international level.”

The poll found that 60 percent of Americans think that showing respect to the flag was “very important,” while a measly 16% of those who responded to the survey said they did not think it was important.

The poll also shows a breakdown by political party, finding that 93% of Republicans and 72% of Democrats believe that Olympic athletes showing respect to the flag is “very important.”

Berry Won’t Say If She’ll Protest At Olympics

Since her anti-American protest at the trials, Berry has played it coy when asked if she plans to protest similarly at the Olympics in Tokyo this summer.

The IOC bans protests and “political, religious, or racial propaganda” demonstrations. It remains to be seen whether the rule gets enforced.

“We’ll see,” Berry said when asked directly if she will be protesting. “It just depends on how I’m feeling and what I want to do in that moment.”

“Let’s be clear — I do respect the Constitution because, obviously, I was exercising my constitutional right,” she added, according to The Washington Examiner. “But I will not stand for any type of symbol or song that does not stand for all people in America.”

“We need to be talking about the racial and social injustice issues that the black community still faces to this day,” Berry continued. “It’s the same thing, and people are trying to divert the attention to a song and a flag when that’s not even the biggest thing we need to be focusing on right now.”

Americans Have Had Enough

In a time when it seems that more Americans have no respect for our flag than ever, it’s comforting to see that people want Olympic athletes to pay our flag and our anthem the respect they deserve.

Of course social media users are quick to let Berry know where she can go, take a look:

Hopefully this poll is brought to Ms. Berry’s attention so that she can see that many Black Americans that she claims to be fighting for have had enough of her anti-American antics.
