Johnson wrote and sang both country and pop songs, and his biggest hits included the songs “Give Me Wings,” “The Moon Is Still Over Her Shoulder,” and “Bluer Than Blue.”
His six-decade career included numerous number one hits as well as helping to write many hit songs for groups such as 4 Runner.
Johnson also had the opportunity to work with artists such as John Denver, Juice Newton, and Alison Krauss.
Despite undergoing quadruple bypass surgery in 2007, Johnson continued to perform all over the country up until the end. He died peacefully at his home in Minnesota under hospice care.
