Gene Simmons, legendary rocker and frontman for KISS, is beloved by millions of adoring fans. That’s why it may come as a surprise to you that the 73 year-old musician has revealed in a new interview that he doesn’t have any friends.

‘I Don’t Have Friends’

“Even today as I sit here, other than Paul [Stanley], and we only get together when we do stuff for the band… How do I say this without sounding inhuman? I don’t have friends,” Simmons told Goldmine Magazine.

He added, “Yeah, if friends means, ‘Gee, I don’t know what I’m going to do this afternoon. Hey, you want to come over and hang out?'” further elaborating that he’s “more interested in what I want to do, and I don’t want to pretend that I’m interested in what you want to do because I am not.”

Though Simmons seems to prefer to be solo as much as possible in his personal life, he’s been in KISS with Stanley for decades, despite their first meeting not going quite as well as you would think it did.

‘I Didn’t Like Him’

In 2014, during an interview with Oprah Winfrey, as transcribed by People Magazine, Stanley simply said “I didn’t like him,” alluding to his first meeting with Simmons. “I thought he was full of himself, opinionated, brash, insulting… Gene’s first comment to me was, ‘Oh, I hear you write. Play me something.’ He was a bit smug and arrogant and full of himself, and nothing has changed!”

Thankfully, Simmons and Stanley were able to overcome this initial negative meeting, and KISS has released dozens of albums and sold more than 100 million records.

“Look, the fact that we’re together 40 years is a testament… actually, we’ve been together 44 year. It’s like a marriage. And, thankfully, I never see him without his clothes,” Stanley told Oprah at the time.

Simmons’ Family And His Thoughts On The Afterlife

Simmons may not have friends, but fans will be happy to remember that he has has been in a relationship with actress and model Shannon Tweed for decades; finally tying the knot in 2011 after 30 years of dating. The couple share son Nick, 33, and daughter Sophie, 30, so Simmons never has to worry too much about being completely alone.

Later in his latest interview, Simmons also gave his thoughts on what he believes happens after death.

“I’m OK if there’s a heaven and a God. I’m OK with it. I’m also OK if there’s nothing,” he said. “I lean towards nothing.”

“My question is, if we get an afterlife, do mosquitoes?” he continued. “Maybe my mother’s sort of wise statement about every day above ground is a good day, and that’s it.”

Simmons Is A Hoarder

As for something his fans might not know about him, Simmons said he’s something of a hoarder!

“Did you ever see the TV show ‘Hoarders,’ where these sad people just find it impossible to throw away anything, so literally their homes are filled from floor to ceiling with God knows what?” the famed musician went on to admit. “If they go to McDonald’s to eat, they leave the sandwich with the wrapper and everything else is left in the living room and it piles up.”

“So I’m sort of a Gene Simmons hoarder,” Simmons added. “I’m surprised I’ve thrown away the toilet paper I wiped my a** with because I kept everything. And over time, like many things, the value of things you thought were unimportant goes up.”

Simmons certainly is one of a kind, that’s for sure. Keep rocking on, Gene Simmons!
