The new documentary series explores the life and career of prolific film director Martin Scorsese, and was released on Apple TV on October 17. From the director Rebecca Miller, the documentary series premiered at the New York Film Festival earlier this month.

According to Apple TV, the series is “a film portrait of a man through the lens of his work, exploring the many facets of a visionary who redefined filmmaking.” Miller has exclusive and unrestricted access to Scorsese’s private archives and interviewed several frequent collaborators, including iconic actors like Leonardo DiCaprio and Robert De Niro.

The official synopsis on Apple TV reads: “Explore the many lives of Martin Scorsese through intimate interviews with the man himself, access to his private archives, plus conversations with Robert De Niro, Leonardo DiCaprio, Margot Robbie, Daniel Day-Lewis, Steven Spielberg, and more.”

The overview of his life and career is thorough, going over Scorsese’s early biography and his evolution from aspiring priest to student filmmaker to first-time feature director on the Roger Corman-produced Boxcar Bertha. The docuseries also explores his collaborations, his drug use, and concludes with some of his most recent and popular works, including Killers of the Flower Moon.
