Gene Simmons is known for being a legendary rocker and the frontman of the band KISS, but last week, he showed a very different side of himself when he opened up about his American patriotism by sharing a deeply personal story in front of staffers and military personnel at the Pentagon.
Western Journal reported that Simmons was in the Pentagon briefing room to promote a push to make Americans more aware of military service and various career paths in it. While there, Simmons got emotional numerous times while he talked about his own personal path to patriotism.
Simmons told the audience that his mother, who recently passed away, was a Holocaust survivor who spent time in a Jewish concentration camp.
“I’m a proud son of a concentration camp survivor of Nazi Germany. My mother was 14 when she was in the camps,” he said. Simmons went on to recall how he would watch television with his mother as a child, and when the stations were done with their shows for the night, the American flag would appear on the screen as the national anthem played. Becoming emotional himself he recalled how every time his mother saw the American flag on television, “she’d start crying.”
“As an 8-year-old boy, I didn’t understand why, but, from my mother’s point of view, we were finally safe,” Simmons said.
Born in Israel himself, Simmons went on to say that he has gone on to love America with all his heart and to see it as his home country.
“I may have been born in the country that people throughout history have referred to as the promised land, but take my word for it, America is the promised land, for everybody,” he said. “And don’t be ashamed, don’t hesitate… we need to teach young people to be comfortable with saying ‘God Bless America.’”
Celebrities rarely pledge their love for America
These days, it’s incredibly rare to see a celebrity talk about how much they love America. The liberal world of Hollywood and public figures like Colin Kaepernick have made it “hip” and “cool” to trash our country rather than to focus on how blessed we are to live in a free nation like this one. That’s why it is so refreshing to see Simmons tear up as he talks about how much America means to him. We need more stars to come forward and start promoting patriotism in this way!
God bless Gene Simmons, and God bless America.
