Country music legend Dolly Parton just made an announcement that has her fans feeling excited.
Deadline reported that Netflix has just greenlighted an eight-episode anthology series based on Parton’s songs. Parton will be both appearing in the show and executive producing it.
“As a songwriter, I have always enjoyed telling stories through my music,” Parton said. “I am thrilled to be bringing some of my favorite songs to life with Netflix. We hope our show will inspire and entertain families and folks of all generations, and I want to thank the good folks at Netflix and Warner Bros. TV for their incredible support.”
This deal is similar to the one that NBC signed with Parton three years ago to make a series of stand-alone TV movies based on her “songs, stories and inspiring life,” with an option for Parton to appear in them. This deal was extremely successful, with the movie Coat Of Many Colors being watched by nearly 16 million viewers.
Since we’re going to be seeing a whole lot more of Parton on Netflix, we’ve compiled some of the reasons we love the country music star:
She is a self-made woman who comes from a poor background
Parton grew up in rural Tennessee living in a one-room cabin with her 11 siblings. The family was so poor that they could not even afford to go to the doctor when one of them got sick. Despite starting her life in poverty, Parton has made a fortune for herself over the course of her career by becoming a successful singer, actress, and businesswoman.
Her voice is like no other
There’s nothing quite like listening to a Dolly Parton song! Her voice is totally unique, and it’s no wonder she is one of the most legendary country music stars of all time.
She’s starred in some of our favorite movies
Not satisfied with simply being a singer, Parton has also starred in some of the most popular movies ever! She’s had leading roles in such classics as 9 to 5 and The Best Little Whorehouse In Texas. We can’t wait to see her continue to act on her Netflix show!
She’s a proud Christian
Parton has never let her success in Hollywood make her forget that she owes everything to God.
“My faith has always been so important to me. I grew up in a very religious family, my grandpa was a preacher, I’m not religious as much as I am spiritual,” she said recently. “I pray every day. I pray about everything. I ask God to lead me and guide me in all the decisions I make – and to bring all the good and right people into my life and to let me do something to glorify God and uplift mankind.”
She has a huge heart
Charity work is one of the most important aspects of Parton’s life. She is the founder of Dollywood, a non-profit organization that offers scholarships to young people in her community. She supports many other charities as well, including the Save The Music Foundation, The Cancer Research UK, and Dogs Deserve Better.
