HBO Max, despite all the drama surrounding it, is an excellent streaming service. Not only do you get access to a fantastic library, but with the bonus of Warner Bros, you get access to the Turner Classic Movies hub, making this truly movie heaven! 

With so many choices, it is hard to widdle down the best ones. But we will try our best!

Gone With The Wind

For some dumb reason, people have tried to cancel this movie. I don’t know why. It doesn’t endorse the confederacy or the south and is not pro-slavery, and it’s one of the best movies ever made. 

The Goonies

This is a good-natured timeless classic that holds up and is fun for the whole family. It’s a fantastic adventure that doesn’t rely on CGI and a bunch of self-referential jokes.

And no, don’t ever remake this. Ever.

The Exorcist

A slow-burn horror movie that keeps you on a tightrope until exploding in the final act. It spawned some oddball sequels and showed that absolute horror could have mainstream appeal. 

Being There

An underrated classic that is billed as a satire but is actually a moving and heartfelt film about having faith in others and being true to yourself.

Young Frankenstein

There are lots of Mel Brooks films to pick from on HBOMax, so I’ll settle in on my favorite. Mel Brooks threaded the needle of brilliant comedy that never looked down at or mocked the audience. Something you can’t get a lot of in modern times.
