“I Dream Of Jeannie” star Barbara Eden and her husband, architect Jon Eicholtz, have been married for 30 years. In the crazy world of Hollywood, it’s rare to find a marriage that is actually able to stand the test of time. That’s what makes theirs so special!

Eden Reflects On ‘Happy’ Marriage

In a new interview with Closer Weekly, the 90-year-old actress reflected on her “happy” marriage, revealing that the secret behind it lasting so long is making compromises.

“I think you have to like each other a lot. No, you really do,” Eden said, adding that you “really, really” need to be willing to choose your partner over yourself at times.

Eden went on to explain that she likes doing things with Eicholtz, such as watch sports, because she simply “adores” being around him.

“You don’t necessarily have to like the same things. Because we certainly don’t,” she said. “I don’t play golf. I don’t like to watch baseball … and he loves to watch the Angels. But I do because I love him. And I like him. So I’ll watch with him.”

Eden also said that Eicholtz has often compromised with her when it comes to her career in Hollywood.

“He puts up with me working,” she said, going on to say that Eicholtz “doesn’t actually mind” her hectic work schedule.

“I find that it’s just great because he likes what I do,” she said. “He likes me doing it. I think I’m really lucky to have a happy marriage.”

Eden Gets A COVID Dog

While Eden is typically traveling a lot and working on various projects, she’s spent much of the past year at home with Eicholtz amidst the coronavirus pandemic.

In order to stay busy, Eden said that she and her husband have adopted “a COVID dog.”

“We have a Labradoodle. Little boy, he’s so spoiled,” she gushes. Eden acknowledged that her husband is “a little skittish around dogs,” yet they’ve still had a blast adding the adorable pup to their family.

“We would go to a Carmel with our friends who also have a Labradoodle. And we’d spend long weekends up there at [Doris Day‘s hotel The Cypress Inn],” Eden recounted. “[There’s] nothing but dogs there! You don’t want to go if you don’t have a dog. We had such a good time.”

Eden’s Piece Of Advice For Others

In the end, Eden has one piece of advice for anyone who wants to have a marriage to last as long as hers has.

“Walk in the other person’s shoes if you’re having a little problem,” she said. “Try to see their side of it. It’s not easy! But try.”

We’re so glad to see that Eden has ended up with such a happy and loving third marriage. We should all be so lucky as to have the life that she and her husband do.
