The Undertaker retired at Wrestlemania. He lost to Roman Reigns. The Deadman then disrobed, took his hat, gloves, and gear and placed them in the center of the ring.

He hugged his family before disappearing into the smoke.

But is he gone for good? One would hope so. He is 52 and in bad shape. He has lost several steps and is not the wrestler he once was. He has nothing to prove to anyone. He’s one of the greatest of all time. But there are rumors and talk going that the Undertaker is returning soon at No Mercy and/or Survivor Series. And his opponent might be a bit of a surprise.

Via Wrestlezone:

Cena shockingly responded, “I’m not the Undertaker. I’m not a battered veteran at the end of his career with a bad hip.”

Interestingly, while that comment seemed tasteless, it could be leading to something in the future.

**UPDATE** This report has bee disputed by PWI itself. The rumor seems to have started with someone, possibly at Wrestlezone, looking to quote PWI with a misleading/clickbaity story.

A lesson in rumors and lies

How will the wrestling media learn a bit more honesty?  We’ve written several times ourselves about watching out for fake stories and unsourced rumors. Part of what makes wrestling such an exciting culture is the speculation, rumor, and mystery. But with that has to come more responsibility. Part of the reason we created this site was to have a good, solid place for news and info about wrestling. We promise to do better.

Does The Undertaker need to return?

[interaction id=”59a9804f1868a8c438dfdefc”]

No. Though if he is to return, a match with Cena would be the only match that really makes sense beyond getting “revenge” on Roman similar to his revenge on Brock after the first loss at Wrestlemania 30. Though if there is a show that embodies the Undertaker’s legacy, it is Survivor Series. It is the event where the Undertaker first debuted.

Should The Undertaker return?

No. He has nothing left to prove. He has nothing left to give. The only reason for his comeback would be that WWE is worried about selling PPVs. Let him retire. Or force him too. He may feel like he can still go in the ring. But can he really? Can he perform at the level he needs to? He struggled against Roman. Let him retire and let him into the Hall of Fame immediately.

Forget this crap about Batista headlining next year’s Hall of Fame class. The Undertaker should headline it and be the ONLY inductee. He has earned that. No one gave more to this business than him. No one has been a bigger leader. He deserves it.
