The pop star Taylor Swift got to meet Prince William and his oldest two children on Friday night while on the London leg of her tour.

Swift Meets Royals

William celebrated his 42nd birthday on Friday by attending the first London stop of Swift’s Eras Tour with his kids George, 10, and Charlotte, 9. Swift, 34, took a selfie of the four of them that quickly went viral.

“Thank you @taylorswift13 for a great evening!” William captioned the selfie as he posted it to social media.

Swift later posted a selfie of her own to social media that showed her with the royals and her Kansas City Chiefs tight end boyfriend Travis Kelce.

“Happy Bday M8! London shows are off to a splendid start,” Swift captioned that image.

This was the first of Swift’s three shows at Wembley Stadium in London. During the concert, William was seen dancing as Swift performed her hit song “Shake It Off.”

William Is The ‘People’s Prince’

Royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told Daily Mail that William’s selfie with Swift will help “rejuvenate his image” among younger royals fans. He believes the photo will make William “more relatable” and be seen as the “people’s prince.”

Fitzwilliams went on to say that this is something William’s mother, the late Princess Diana, would have done.

“Diana managed, brilliantly, to carve her own niche with her amazing charitable work and, despite personal unhappiness, she became iconic,” he explained. “People felt they could relate to her and, in an unprecedented way, the nation showed this when she died.”

“If people feel you are a more relatable royal, it is easier to get more serious messages across, as Diana, in her charitable campaigns, clearly showed,” he added.

William’s History With Swift

William and Swift have actually known one another for many years. They met back in November of 2013, when they took the stage at a charity event to sing “Livin’ On A Prayer” with Jon Bon Jovi. William looked like he was having a blast as he played the air guitar while they sang.

Afterwards, when asked about meeting William, Swift said, “He was very funny. I was really happy he was funny.”

“I could hear his voice and it’s pretty good,” she told The Mail of their performance. “A nice tone. I’d definitely say he has got star quality and if he ever wants me to sing with him again, I’ll be there.”

William Gushes Over Swift And Bon Jovi

William also gushed over getting to meet Swift and Bon Jovi that night.

“I can’t believe I’m actually telling you this story… I turn up and Jon Bon Jovi and Taylor Swift are at the event, which nearly knocked me off my feet,” he said.

William went on to say that it was Swift who convinced him to perform with her and Bon Jovi.

“She puts her hand on my arm, looks me in the eye and says, “Come on, William. Let’s go and sing,'” he recalled.

Though he was nervous, William explained that “if Taylor Swift looks you in the eye, touches your arm and says, ‘Come with me…’ I got up like a puppy and went, ‘Yeah, OK, that seems like a great idea. I’ll follow you.'”

Clearly, William’s status as a devoted Swiftie has not wavered in the decade since then. Here’s hoping that he and his kids enjoyed Swift’s concert!
