The country music star Reba McEntire is preparing to host the 59th Academy of Country Music Awards tonight for the 17th time. This comes at an exciting time for her, as she is also gearing up to star in a new sitcom Happy’s Place on NBC.
McEntire Hosting ACM Awards
McEntire will be hosting the ACM Awards nearly thirty years after she won Entertainer of the Year back in 1985.
“It was a wonderful night,” McEntire, 69, recalled to ABC News. “I was shocked. Thrilled.”
While many entertainers have various pre-show rituals that they do before hosting a major awards show such as this one, McEntire simply does one thing that showcases her strong Christian faith.
“I don’t have anything that I have to do before I go out except pray,” McEntire said in a video posted to Instagram.
“I ask the Holy Spirit to walk for me, talk for me, speak for me and sing for me,” she added. “And that always gives me the confidence to take that first step and go have a good time.”

McEntire To Perform At ACM Awards
McEntire will be doing more than just hosting tonight. She’ll also be performing her new single “I Can’t,” which she teased is a “big production.”
“I just saw my outfit yesterday. It’s absolutely gorgeous. I can’t wait to have it,” she said. “So, I’m really excited about it.”
“It’s a little different from anything I’ve done in a while,” McEntire recently told Good Morning America of the song. “So I hope everybody enjoys it.”

McEntire’s New Sitcom
This comes at an exciting time for McEntire. Her new sitcom Happy’s Place was just picked up by NBC for a Friday night time slot in the fall.
On this show, McEntire will be reuniting with Melissa Peterman, who co-starred with her on her sitcom Reba from 2001 until 2007.
“We’ve got the same producers, same showrunner, same writers, and now we’re back with Melissa Peterman and Rex Linn, my boyfriend, and wonderful, wonderful cast and crew,” she explained.
McEntire said that while she is up for acting in any genre of film and television, sitcoms are her favorite because one can “just have fun” with them.
“It’s really hard memorizing all the dialogue you have to do, but … it ain’t my first rodeo. I do love it,” she said. “It’s just playtime. We have a blast with it.”
