It’s been nine years since Miranda Lambert divorced her fellow country music star Blake Shelton. Now, all these years later, Lambert is releasing a new divorce anthem called “Alimony.”
Lambert’s New Divorce Album
Lambert is preparing to release her new album “Postcards From Texas” on September 13. In anticipation of this, Lambert has dropped her latest single “Alimony.”
“I called that lawyer up in Dallas, the one who’s livin’ in that palace / So I know he’s good at winnin’, if you think there’s somethin’ that you’re missin,'” Lambert sings in the song.

“My parents were private investigators in Dallas, Texas who worked a ton of divorce cases in highfalutin parts of town, so this wasn’t hard to write,” she explained. “I’d heard about it my whole life.”
“We used every Texas metaphor we could come up with on purpose; we wanted to take something kind of […] and put some humor back in it,” she continued. “I mean, the guy gets out pretty easy if all he does is move back in with his mom.”

Lambert’s New Album Is ‘Very Country’
Lambert had previously revealed back in May that this album would be “very country.” She even went back to her roots.
“I made this record in Texas. I hadn’t made an album in Texas since I was 18,” Lambert said. She added that she “went down to Arlyn Studios in Austin, and Jon Randall, who’s my bestie and co-writer and co-producer, we worked together a lot.”
“Just going home to Texas to make it felt really right for this new season and this new chapter,” she stated. “I signed with Republic Records … and this new team has just given me so much fire and inspiration, because it’s all about the music with them.”

Lambert And Shelton’s Divorce
Lambert and Shelton were married from 2011 until they divorced in 2015. They have since gone on to marry other people, with Lambert marrying the NYPD officer Brendan McLoughlin in 2019. As for Shelton, he married fellow singer Gwen Stefani in 2021.
Back in 2022, Lambert admitted that having her divorce from Shelton play out in the public eye was not easy for her.
“I wasn’t prepared for that. Well, I don’t think anybody is,” she told CBS News. “And it’s not nice sometimes, but I think you got to take it with a grain of salt and know that I’m a singer-songwriter so luckily I can tell my whole truth.”
Back in May, Lambert and Shelton tried to avoid one another when they each attended the Academy of Country Music Awards with their respective spouses.
“They really did not want to have to meet up during some massive event with all those eyes on them so they kept their distance,” a source told Daily Mail at the time.
“There is no bad blood, really, Miranda just didn’t want to make a big scene so she avoided Blake,” the insider added. “But she is definitely on civil terms with Blake and is happy for him.”
While divorce is never easy, we’re glad to see that Shelton and Lambert appear to have each moved on with their lives. We can’t wait to hear Lambert’s full album when it comes out in September!
