Michael J. Fox, the beloved actor known for his roles in Back to the Future and the television sitcom Family Ties, made a surprise appearance during Coldplay’s headlining set at the Glastonbury music festival this past weekend.
It was a surprising and thoroughly enjoyable moment for fans of the actor who has been battling Parkinson’s disease since 1991.
Fox, who just turned 63 last month, shared his thoughts on the experience in a post on Instagram.
“Glastonbury, all the love and thanks to the @coldplay team who took such great care of us,” he wrote. “And many thanks to Chris, Will, Johnny, Guy and Phil.”
“Oh yeah in case you were wondering … it was […] mind blowing.”
Hell yeah, it was.

Michael J Fox Shredding On The Guitar
For those of you who missed The Mix‘s original coverage of Michael J. Fox performing live on stage with Coldplay, you missed an iconic moment.
Fox played guitar on two songs: “Humankind” and “Fix You.”
Watch:
What an amazing song on its own. Throw in an icon of the 1980s defying the odds with his fight against Parkinson’s disease and how do you even begin to fight back the tears?
Fox also performed with Coldplay at MetLife Stadium in July 2016, where they performed “Johnny B. Goode” in its entirety.
Which, anybody who has seen the movie Back to the Future, knows is a key song.

Praises Coldplay: ‘A Band For Every Time’
While Coldplay often sings the praises of Michael J. Fox, even crediting him with the formation of the band, Fox had some kind words right back at them.
“There is a time for every band and a band for every time,” Fox wrote. “This is @coldplay’s time.”
Right there. On that stage for those two songs in Glastonbury. It was Michael’s time. As a fan of music, you had to love it. As a fan of life, it’s a storybook moment.
“Especially thank you to the main reason why we’re in a band, is because of watching ‘Back to the Future,’” lead singer Chris Martin told fans after the performance.
“So thank you to our hero forever, and one of the most amazing people on Earth, Mr. Michael J. Fox. Thank you so much, our hero.”
