The country music legend Dolly Parton has announced that she is working on a Broadway show about her life.
Parton’s Broadway Show
“I’ve been writing my life story as a Broadway musical for several years and I’m proud to announce we are finally developing ‘Hello, I’m Dolly – An Original Musical’ for the Broadway stage,” she said, according to CBS News.
“Hello, I’m Dolly” is set to debut on Broadway in 2026. It will feature music and lyrics by Parton, according to a statement on the show’s website.
Parton, 78, went on to say that the show will have “many original songs.”
“You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll clap, you’ll stomp, it truly is a Grand Ol’ Opera,” she continued. “Pun and fun intended. Don’t miss it.”

Parton Bringing ‘Her Inspiring Story To Broadway’
Deadline reported that Parton will be writing the show with Maria S. Schlatter, who previously worked with the “Jolene” singer on television projects like the Emmy Award-winning Christmas on the Square. Parton will produce the show herself along with Adam Speers for ATG Production and Danny Nozell for CTK Enterprises.
“I first had the pleasure of working with Dolly Parton in 2019, when she trusted us to develop a new version of her musical 9 to 5 for London’s West End,” Speers said. “I had always heard she wanted to do a musical based on her life, so when she asked if I would be interested in producing it, I was bowled over.
“As the world knows, Dolly is a magical blend of talent, hard work, intelligence, charm, wit, and a gigantically big heart,” he added. “I’m thrilled we’re going to bring her inspiring story to Broadway.”
Parton indeed has some experience with writing for Broadway. Daily Beast reported that she previously wrote the Tony Award-nominated score of 9 to 5: The Musical, which ran on Broadway in 2009.

‘Hello, I’m Dolly’
“Hello, I’m Dolly” was the name of Parton’s first album that she released way back in 1967, according to The Guardian. The album featured such classic Parton songs as “Dumb Blonde” and “Something Fishy.”
After releasing this album, Parton would later go on to become a true legend. She’s won 55 major awards in music, film, and television. Parton has won 10 Grammy Awards and been nominated for 54 more. Parton also has nominations from all three other EGOT categories: the Emmy, Oscar and Tony Awards, according to People Magazine.
Parton’s show will be the latest in a long line of musicians who are using their own songs to create Broadway productions. Others include Neil Diamond, Alicia Keys, Michael Jackson, Carole King and Gloria and Emilio Estefan.
Meanwhile, other rock and pop legends who have Broadway scores are Elton John, Cyndi Lauper, The Go-Go’s, Sting, Alanis Morissette, Dave Stewart, Edie Brickell, Trey Anastasio, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim and Bono & The Edge.
