Celine Dion is set to make a comeback performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris Summer Olympics, marking her first singing appearance since being diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome in 2022.
The Canadian singer, known for her incredibly rich and powerful vocals, was seen arriving in Paris ahead of the event on Monday.
Variety is reporting that Dion is staying at the Royal Monceau Hotel near the Champs-Élysées where another opening ceremony headliner – Lady Gaga – is staying.
This performance, should it come to fruition, would be particularly significant given Dion’s health challenges. Her many fans are eagerly anticipating a return.
The opening ceremony is set to take place on July 26th, and will feature a unique setting along the Seine River, showcasing the city’s iconic landmarks.
Celine Dion Making Comeback At Paris Olympics?
Celine Dion has been open about her battle with Stiff Person Syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms.
In her documentary “I Am: Celine Dion,” she chronicles her struggle with the condition and her efforts to continue her normal life and career. It is, at times, heartbreaking to watch the pain she endures.
Despite the challenges, the “My Heart Will Go On” singer has expressed her determination to return to the stage, no matter what. In fact, she made that declaration in the documentary.
“I’m working hard every day. But I have to admit, it’s been a struggle,” she said.
“I miss it so much,” she tearfully said of performing. “The people. I miss them. If I can’t run, I’ll walk. If I can’t walk, I’ll crawl. And I won’t stop.”

Was She Inspired By The Olympic Athletes?
Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS) is a rare autoimmune neurological disorder that causes progressive muscle stiffness and painful spasms, often triggered by environmental stimuli or emotional stress. It primarily affects the trunk and limbs, leading to postural deformities and difficulty with mobility.
Dion told Vogue France that she had to approach any comeback the way an athlete would. Maybe even an Olympic athlete.
“The way I see it, I have two choices,” she insisted. “Either I train like an athlete and work super hard, or I switch off and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my songs, stand in front of my mirror, and sing to myself.”
“I’ve chosen to work with all my body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best I can be,” Dion added. “My goal is to see the Eiffel Tower again!”
Now that goal appears to be very much in reach. The “Parade of Nations” will float down the Seine River in front of … you guessed it, the Eiffel Tower.
Celine Dion in front of the Eiffel Tower, achieving her personal comeback dream in spite of a debilitating health crisis. That might be one of the most inspirational things you’ll see at these Olympic games.
We can’t wait to watch it!
