Just days after President Donald Trump ordered a Tomahawk missile strike against the Syrian Shayrat air base, it is already functioning and planes from the base are once again carrying out missions against the Syrian rebels including ISIS and Al Qaeda-affiliated forces.

The Syrian governor of Homs reported, “The airport is operating as a first phase. Planes have taken off from it.”

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights also reported that Syrian warplanes began taking off from the base on Friday to carry out strikes against rebels.

Footage has also emerged of the planes taking off from the base.

Al Masdar news reports the Syrian Air Force “carried out several missions on Monday that targeted both the jihadist rebels in northern Hama and Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIL) in the Palmyra countryside and eastern Hama.”

Donald Trump noted the military did not target the runway.

The Pentagon released images detailing the damage the 59 Tomahawk missiles caused:

U.S. military officials also claim they destroyed at least 20 Syrian aircraft. However, Al-Masdar news notes only “several immobile planes and hangars were damaged, the Syrian military was able to clean-up the mess and quickly repair any problematic sites.”

Russia’s RIA Novosti agency reported that a base employee said, “All the aircraft on the base have been taken out of action, it’s safe to say they are completely destroyed.”
