CinemaCon is officially underway, and we’re already getting showered with huge announcements. Sony started the event with a splash, announcing the biopics (yes, plural) for one of the biggest bands in the world: The Beatles.

The four films are collectively called The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, focusing on one member in each one. They will all be released theatrically in April 2028. But who’s playing the iconic band members? Keep reading below to learn more.

Who’s Playing Who?

While there has been a lot of speculation about who’s playing the Fab Four, we have finally gotten confirmation from an announcement at CinemaCon. Below are the four actors starring in the Beatles biopics, along with notable productions they also appeared in:

  • Harris Dickinson (John Lennon) – Babygirl, Where the Crawdads Sing, Triangle of Sadness
  • Paul Mescal (Paul McCarney) – Gladiator II, Normal People, All of Us Strangers
  • Barry Keoghan (Ringo Starr) – Saltburn, The Killing of a Sacred Deer, The Banshees of Inisherin
  • Joseph Quinn (George Harrison) – Stranger Things, Gladiator II, A Quiet Place: Day One

The Announcement at CinemaCon

It’s official! The Fab Four have been cast, and we couldn’t be happier. At CinemaCon, Sam Mendes announced not only the films but the leading actors as well. To make things even sweeter, Mendes called out the actors for the announcement, with all four appearing onstage and reciting lines from the song “Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band.”

Mendes went on to say, “We’re not just making one film about the Beatles — we’re making four. Perhaps this is a chance to understand them a little more deeply.” He also went on to comment that the film series will be “the first binge-able theatrical experience.”

Sony’s Ambitious Plan

With the four-film announcement, Sony has undertaken an ambitious plan for success. Surrounding the idea of binge-watching four films within a month, it’s definitely risky. While we don’t know yet whether all four films will release on the same day or over the course of several weeks, it will still be monumental.

Sony’s decision is bold and is a gamble that film studios have not made in a long time. While Hollywood loves their “Part One” movies or franchises spanning several years in the making, they don’t always work out. Releasing all four films in one month could change the attitude about several films making up one story while also cutting out the waiting time, but it does come with a hefty price tag.

The film industry and theaters are still trying to rebound from the pandemic just five years ago, and this may be the trick to getting people to leave their houses. There is no better group to create a biopic about than the Beatles, and hopefully, Sony’s four-part Beatles biopic is an absolute success.

The Bottom Line

While we only have the leading actors, release date, and director so far, there is already anticipation for the Beatles biopic. Still, three years out, Sony aims to change the game when it comes to sequels and release all four in April 2028. Will they be a success and propel these actors into further stardom, or will they show the reality of a big budget and unknown profits? I guess we will just have to wait and see.
