Progress on Pirates of the Caribbean 6

There is progress in the distance for Pirates of the Caribbean 6.

In an interview with Screen Rant, Bruckheimer stated they are still moving forward with the sixth installment. “We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we’ll get it right – and then we’ll make it. We really want to make it, that’s for sure.”

Instead of a continuation of the story, Bruckheimer added that it will be “a new take on [the franchise],” but they will be bringing back some familiar characters from past installments.

He left fans with the cryptic line: “Not all new actors. We’ll have some back. I’m not going to tell you which ones – you’ll have to guess.”

What is Pirates of the Caribbean 6 About?

The newest film will not pick up after Dead Men Tell No Tales, according to Bruckheimer. However, the story will still take place in the same world at sea, including some familiar faces from the franchise.

The script is still in the works, so no real concrete loglines or descriptions have been released as of now.

While the sixth entry was announced in 2018, several challenges and delays have hindered progress. Most notable was the trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, which prompted Disney to part ways with Depp, who also stated he would not return as the swashbuckling pirate.

Returning Cast Members Teased

Bruckheimer has teased that characters will return to the Pirates of the Caribbean stage, and some of the actors want this as well.

Ever since Dead Men Tell No Tales hit theaters, Orlando Bloom has shown interest in returning as Will Turner, especially if his original costars are up to it. In an interview with British chat show This Morning, he stated:

“Well, I don’t know, I can’t say anything at the moment because I really don’t know. I think they’re trying to work out what it would all look like. I personally think it’d be great to get the band back together. That would be great, but there are always different ideas, and so we’ll see where it lands.”

The original trio refers to Keira Knightley and Johnny Depp. Knightley has stated she is happy with her character’s ending, and Depp has sworn off the pirate; perhaps they can be persuaded for another appearance.

Other beloved characters in the franchise that could be brought back include Captain Hector Barbossa, Joshamee Gibbs, Calypso, Pintel, and Ragetti.

What This Means for the Franchise

Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is still in early development, so we don’t know exactly what will happen in the newest installment. But the fact that some of the actors will be returning to their roles is a positive sign. The film may try to continue to build upon the franchise without building a whole new world.

However, if the story does not follow the events in Dead Men Tell No Tales, it may be interesting to see where they take the plot and whether it will stand up against previous installments. We will have to wait and see.
