George Clooney has named Callum Turner as his pick for the next James Bond.

Daniel Craig quit his role as 007 following the release of 2021’s No Time To Die, in which the superspy appeared to meet his death. The franchise has since been taken over by film chiefs at Amazon MGM Studios, who are currently on the hunt for a new lead actor.

Now Clooney has weighed in on the search for a new Bond and insisted 36-year-old Turner, whom he directed in 2023 sports drama The Boys in the Boat, would be perfect for the part because he’s “tall” and “handsome.”

Clooney told The Hollywood Reporter, “He [Turner] hasn’t just gone for the easy paychecks – he’s done really interesting work. Somehow Callum has weaved his way through all of the noise and found a place where people look at him and go: ‘There’s something with this young man.'”

“It’s exciting to watch people saying: ‘That guy – that’s a guy I want to follow and pay attention to’ …”

“I hope Callum ends up being the next Bond. I think he would be a great Bond. He’s tall and handsome and charming and British, so he’s the perfect guy to do it.”

Mum’s the Word

However, Turner insisted he hasn’t heard anything from Bond bosses yet, even though they have confirmed auditions are now underway for the role of James Bond.

He told the publication, “I know as much as you do – really, I know as much as you do … I’ll tell you what’s so funny about the Bond thing: Even your best friends ask you, people text you that you haven’t spoken to for 10 years – and you know nothing!”

“It’s such a weird thing of something happening and nothing happening at all. I genuinely know nothing. I just find it quite amusing.”

It comes after former James Bond star Pierce Brosnan offered some advice to the next actor taking on the coveted role. He declared they need to “be bold” and “have a great time.”

Brosnan, 73, played the superspy in four movies from 1995 to 2002, GoldenEye, Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough, and Die Another Day, and he had some key advice for the next 007 star.

Speaking to Extra, he said, “Be bold. Enjoy it. Know yourself, be strong, go out there and have a great time … There’s so many wonderful actors. It’s a magnificent role. Whoever finds the role, it will change their life.”
