What’s the Plot?

Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) Coleman are back on the big screen years after their first body switch in Freaky Friday. The newest addition to the franchise will include two more body swaps with Anna’s daughter and soon-to-be stepdaughter. Here’s what you need to know about the swapping:

  • Anna switches bodies with her daughter Harper (Julia Butters).
  • Tess switches places with Anna’s soon-to-be stepdaughter Lilly Davies (Sophia Hammons).

For the plot, Tess and Anna are trying to navigate the challenges of a blended family. The two discover that lightning may strike twice, though, as the four swap bodies and all sorts of comedic mayhem break loose. The swapped women must work together to take over each other’s lives until they switch back. Of course, lessons will be learned, and Lohan will even strap on an electric guitar again before the credits roll.

The best part about the teaser? Once switched, Lilly, stuck inside her grandmother-in-law’s body, shrieks, “My face looks like a Birkin bag that’s been left out in the sun to rot.” If this is just in the teaser, viewers are sure to be in for a wild ride.

Who’s Returning to Freakier Friday?

Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis aren’t the only cast returning to the second film. Other returning cast include Mark Harmon (who played Tess Coleman’s fiancé Ryan), Christina Vidal Mitchell (Maddie), Haley Hudson (Peg), Rosalind Chao (Pei-Pei), Lucille Soong (Pei-Pei’s mom), and Stephen Tobolowwsky (Mr. Bates).

Surprise Appearance?

While watching the teaser, you might have noticed one more returning actor, complete with a surprise appearance and head-turning scene. Chad Michael Murray, who played Anna’s boyfriend Jake in the first film, is back.

With just a few seconds of screen time, Murray makes his mark, pulling up on a motorcycle and flicking his hair out of his black helmet.

However, Anna has a new husband, played by Manny Jacinto, so it’ll be interesting to see how Murray’s character fits into the overall plot of the film.

When Does the Movie Come Out?

Freakier Friday is set to hit theaters on August 8, 2025, just two days after the 22nd anniversary of the first film. Check your local theaters to see when showtimes are, and how soon you can watch the movie on the big screen.
