Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has announced that he’s teaming up with Disney for a new movie that is sure to have gearheads excited! Called Monster Jam, the film will explore the action-packed world of monster trucks and motorsports.

Johnson’s Monster Jam Movie

Johnson, 52, made this announcement during Disney’s D23 panel in Anaheim, California last Friday.

“We got an opportunity here that we could create something that is immersive and cool and fun, and also a live-action experience for our families all around the world, from the POV of these incredible, iconic monster trucks and their very eccentric and crazy drivers,” Johnson said. “Ladies and gentlemen, ‘Monster Jam’ is gonna be a heck of a ride.”

Live-action experience? That sounds like perhaps The Rock is getting ready to take some serious driving lessons!

Johnson went on to talk about his love for big trucks.

“I’m so excited to break the news to you guys,” he said. “As you guys know, I’m a pickup truck man. That’s all I drive. I drove my pickup truck here. It’s out back. You guys know that, and I love motorsports, love monster trucks.”

CEO Wants to Go BIG

Juliette Feld Grossman, the CEO of the Monster Jam parent company Feld Entertainment, released a statement of her own about the project.

“Together, The Rock and Monster Jam are truly As Big As It Gets!™ We’re thrilled to collaborate with Dwayne Johnson and Walt Disney Studios to take moviegoers into the world of Monster Jam on a high-octane, live-action adventure that will bring the larger-than-life Monster Jam trucks and personalities from the stadium to the screen,” she said.

Johnson has worked with Disney for many years. His first Disney movie was 2007’s The Game Plan, followed by the 2009 film Race to Witch Mountain. Most recently, he starred in the 2021 Disney movie Jungle Cruise.

On top of that, Johnson has played himself in Disney Channel sitcoms like Hannah Montana, Cory in the House, and Wizards of Waverly Place.

Johnson’s Other Disney Projects

Monster Jam isn’t the only Disney project that Johnson is currently working on. He’s also busy with Moana 2 and a live-action Moana remake. The trailer for Moana 2 dropped on Monday morning. Check that out for yourself below.

The sequel takes place three years after the first movie. When the sequel begins, Moana is “on an expansive journey in search of people beyond the shores of Motunui.”

“Joined by Maui and a brand-new crew of unlikely seafarers, Moana must journey to the far seas of Oceania and into dangerous, long-lost waters for an adventure unlike anything she’s ever faced,” the synopsis continues.

Johnson will star in the sequel with Auli’i Cravalho, who plays Moana. Others in the film include Rachel House (Moana’s Grandma Tala), Temuera Morrison (Moana’s father Chief Tui) and Nicole Scherzinger (Moana’s mother Sina), plus Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo, Awhimai Fraser, Gerald Ramsey and Khaleesi Lambert-Tsuda as Moana’s little sister Simea.

Johnson has certainly come a long way since his WWE days. Indeed, he’s now one of the busiest stars in Hollywood. We can’t wait to see Monster Jam when he finally completes it!
