Frankie Valli’s brother, Bobby Valli, has shared his candid thoughts on the 2014 film Jersey Boys, directed by Clint Eastwood. He told listeners it “didn’t portray the story properly.”
Movie Falling Short
The movie, based on the life of The Four Seasons, followed the massively successful Broadway play with Frankie and fellow band member Bob Gaudio serving as executive producers.
Appearing on the Nostalgia Tonight with Joe Sibilia podcast, Bobby praised the Broadway show but said the movie fell short of expectations.
He said, “I don’t wanna poo-poo anything, because the play did $2 billion. The movie wasn’t a big success. I thought that they didn’t portray the story properly in the movie. They made it almost like a musical.”
Bobby explained that the film should have been grittier and more reflective of the realities behind the band’s rise.
He said, “It should have been more of like, almost a Goodfellas story, with music. Because a lot of the mob people owned all the clubs, and they didn’t portray that undercurrent.”
“They made it a little too much like Wonder Bread, I would say. That was the only thing I didn’t like about the movie. The whole concept was incredible.”
Frankie Valli’s Role
He also highlighted Frankie Valli’s role in bringing the original musical to life.
Bobby said, “My brother is the reason why that play happened. He brought that play all around the country, and nobody wanted to do the play. The success of the play was absolutely incredible. And it catapulted my brother into a position where he may have never been.”
Frankie Prioritizing His Health
Frankie Valli, 92, recently announced he was canceling the remainder of his 2026 tour with The Four Seasons. The shows, originally scheduled to conclude in October, were cancelled due to health reasons.
He wrote on Instagram, alongside a photo of himself performing, “I’m so sorry to disappoint the folks who have purchased tickets to my shows, but I have decided to take the rest of the year off from touring to focus on my health.”
“I’m looking forward to getting healthy and seeing you all again soon. Thank you for all your good wishes.”
