It’s confirmed. Alex Garland will be moving from Warfare to fantasy.
A24 released the news that Garland will write and direct a live-action Elden Ring film for the production company and video game company Bandai Namco Entertainment Inc.
The film will be based on the mythological story by George R. R. Martin.

Alex Garland’s Past Works
The news comes after the hit film Warfare, which Garland directed alongside Ray Mendoza, has grossed over $32 million since opening last month.
Other projects under Garland’s belt include four out of five with A24. His first breakout piece was in 2014 with Ex Machina, before moving on to Annihilation. This film was distributed by Paramount instead of A24. Next, Garland worked on Men, Civil War, and the most recent, Warfare.
Future projects for Garland include multiple films in a new 28 Years Later zombie trilogy for Sony, with the first title slated to release on June 20th.
Others Joining the Production
Other than Garland writing and producing, several others are attached to the live-action Elden Ring film.
Peter Rice is set to produce the film alongside Andrew Macdonald and Allon Reich from DNA, as well as George R. R. Martin and Vince Gerardis.

What is Elden Ring About?
Elden Ring is an action RPG game set in an authentic dark fantasy world, allowing players to go on adventures within vast environments and dungeons. The game is based on a story written by Martin, who also penned the fantasy novel series, A Song of Ice and Fire, which served as the groundwork for HBO’s Game of Thrones.
Elden Ring was developed by FromSoftware under Hidetaka Miyazaki’s guidance and released by Bandai Namco Entertainment.
Elden Ring’s Success
The game has reached worldwide success, with Elden Ring shipping over 30 million units over the last few years.
The year it was released, it had major successes at the 2022 Game Awards, winning prizes for game of the year, best game direction, and best role-playing game.

Elden Ring Nightreign
An Elden Ring spin-off, titled Elden Ring Nightreign, is set to release on May 30th. The new game will have players cooperate to overcome a variety of challenges, all set in a similar fantastical world.
