It’s never too late to keep a franchise going, even after almost 40 years since the last movie.

And for Danny Glover, 78, and Mel Gibson, 69, it’s time for them to reunite for Lethal Weapon‘s fifth installment of the franchise. Their reunion happened at a fan expo in Philadelphia, where the duo fielded questions about the long-delayed movie.
With Gibson directing the film and Glover agreeing to reprise his role as Detective Roger Murtaugh, who is known for his infamous line that he’s “too old for this s-t” in each installment, fans can’t wait to see the franchise come back.
In the franchise, Gibson plays a Los Angeles police detective, Martin Riggs, who becomes reckless and suicidal following the death of his wife.

News of Lethal Weapon‘s fifth installment was confirmed in 2020 by producer Dan Lin during a roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter. However, Richard Donner, the director of all four films, died in 2021 at age 91.
It wasn’t until months later that Gibson shared a previous request that the director gave to the actor. Gibson shared that “He was developing the screenplay, and he got pretty far along with it. And he said to me one day, ‘Listen kid, if I kick the bucket, you will do it.’ And I said, ‘Shut up.’ But he did indeed pass away. But he did ask me to do it, and at the same time, I didn’t say anything. He said it to his wife and to the studio, and to the producer. So I will be directing the fifth one.”
Gibson also shared his experience with the beginning. He added that he asked Glover for his blessing. “I called Danny [Glover] up, of course, and said, ‘Hey, dude, is it okay with you if I direct this?’ to which Glover replied, ‘Yeah, let’s go.'”
While a release date for the Lethal Weapon‘s fifth installment has not been announced, and very little detail has been shared, this is definitely a movie that you don’t want to miss out on, so keep following for more updates.
