Michelle Knight, one of the three women who was held captive for more than a decade by Ariel Castro, is releasing a second memoir – and she told Dr. Phil on Tuesday that she’s married.
“I’ve got really good news for you,” Knight, who has since changed her name to Lillian Rose Lee, told Dr. Phil on an episode scheduled to air April 24th. “I’m married!”
Knight was kidnapped by Castro in August 2002 at the age of 21. She was the first woman Castro kidnapped, and at the time of her disappearance police believed her to be a voluntary runaway. She and Gina DeJesus were rescued from Castro’s “House of Horrors” on May 6, 2013, after Amanda Berry managed to make contact with Castro’s neighbors and escape.
In 2014, Knight released her first memoir, “Finding Me: A Decade of Darkness, a Life Reclaimed,” which became a New York Times bestseller. Her second memoir, “Life After Darkness: Finding Healing and Happiness After the Cleveland Kidnappings,” will discuss her battle with addiction, her relationship with Berry and DeJesus, and how she’s adjusted to life after escaping Castro.
“Michelle shares how she dared to emerge into life again, rebuilding and re-creating her true self,” says Mauro DiPreta, vice president and publisher of Hachette Books told PEOPLE exclusively in January. “And [she] offers her thoughts on how anyone who has suffered greatly can learn to find new meaning and purpose.”
Knight has been much more public about her ordeal than Berry and DeJesus. She even returned to Castro’s house to witness its demolition in August 2013.
Now 36, Knight is an artist, author, speaker, and survivor, according to her bio. She spends her time volunteering at local animal shelters, creating art, and advocating for change so that no one else has to endure what she did.
I want to thank all of you for your continued support, and I look forward to sharing my full heart and story with you on May 1st, in my new book "Life After Darkness"
God Bless,
