Hollywood star Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson previously banned their son Chet from doing reality TV. That’s why it came as a shock to many when he did just that with his new show!

Chet Sounds Off On Parents And Reality TV

In a new interview, the 33 year-old Chet is claiming that his parents changed their mind and are now supportive of his upcoming reality show The Surreal Life on MTV.

“They definitely have said [no reality TV] in regard to the typical reality shows,” Chet told Daily Mail, referring to his famous parents.

“When this came up, we discussed it and everybody agreed… we all agreed that this could be a really great opportunity for me and it was perfect,” he added. “They were really supportive. I was excited and everybody was.”

Chet Turned Down Previous Reality TV Offers

Chet went on to talk about why he’s refused to do reality TV in the past.

“I had been offered to do a reality shows in the past… I’ve been getting reality TV offers for a long time,” he explained. “I’ve always said no, because all the shows that have offered me to come on had been all about the drama, fighting, gossiping, you know… just really negative.”

“And this is the first reality show… this is the first one that’s not that kind of show,” Chet continued. “It’s really more so about personal relationships and getting to show people a different side of you and personal growth and being open and vulnerable.”

Chet is the oldest son of Tom, 68, and Rita, 67. They are also parents to 27 year-old Truman. Tom is additionally father to Colin, 46, and Elizabeth, 42, with his late ex-wife Samantha Lewes.

Chet has openly struggled with drug and alcohol addiction in the past. With this new show, however, he is hoping that fans will see a different side of him.

“Just for people to see a different side of Chet Hanks… which I think they will,” he explained when asked what he hopes to come of The Surreal Life.

Surreal Life Rumors

Rumors have swirled that while filming this reality show, Chet may have gotten romantic with The Real Housewives Of Atlanta star Kim Zolciak.

“I think Chet is great,” Kim told E! News. “He’s just a great guy and we had some very deep conversations that you’ll see. You have to stay tuned and see what happens.”

Chet reportedly feels the same way about Kim.

“Kim is just cool as hell,” he said. “We instantly got along. She’s very savvy, she’s very witty. She’s got a smart mouth. I’m drawn to people like that, like fun banter. I still keep in touch with Kim and we just got along great.”

As for whether they hooked up during filming, Chet said that he “can’t confirm or deny anything.”

“You’ll have to stay tuned, honey,” Kim added.

The Surreal Life is set to premiere tonight at 9pm EST on MTV. The Hanks family will certainly be tuning in, and you should too!
