The Hollywood filmmaker George Lucas, the man behind the film franchises Star Wars and Indiana Jones, celebrated his 80th birthday last Saturday with a star-studded party. Find out what A-list names attended below!
Lucas’ Birthday Bash
The New York Post reported that the party took place on Saturday, May 18 from 6pm until midnight. It was held at the Skywalker Ranch, which is located about 40 minutes north of San Francisco, California.
This property includes the main house and the man-made Lake Ewok. It also houses Skywalker Sound, the 153,000-square-foot postproduction facility that features a 300-seat theater. Lucas has owned the property since 1978, according to Daily Mail.
The list of stars attending this party include Harrison Ford, Mark Hamill, Samuel L. Jackson, Tyler Perry, Steven Spielberg, Peter Jackson, Oprah Winfrey, Gayle King, Robert De Niro, Glenn Close, Queen Latifah, Kerry Washington, Steve Martin, Chris Rock, H.E.R., Alicia Keys, Don Henley, Jon Batiste, Swizz Beatz, Jon Favreau, and Warwick Davis.

Party Was ‘Lucas-Themed’
A total of about 100 to 150 people attended the party. Lucas’ many family and friends were in attendance as well. A source told reporters that Lucas’ wife Mellody Hobson, who he’s been married to since 2013, “was an exceptional host, warmly greeting everyone at the party.”
“The drinks were flowing, creating an atmosphere similar to a family gathering [rather] than a white-glove affair,” this insider said. “Yet, I assure you, everything was on point and Lucas-themed.”
Martin acted as the MC for the night’s entertainment, which featured performances from Keys, Batiste, Henley and H.E.R. The source witnessed Winfrey and Washington talking to one another. Ford and Queen Latifah also “stole a few moments in conversation.”
Throughout the night, the party’s band played music from the Star Wars and Indiana Jones soundtracks. The party also featured artwork that included an oil painting of the late actress Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in Star Wars. She sadly died of a heart attack back in 2016 at the age of 60.

Lucas Avoids Spotlight – Discusses His Legacy
Lucas, whose actual birthday was on May 14, has kept a low profile ever since he sold Lucasfilm to Disney for $4.05 billion in 2012. This party just goes to show that despite this, he remains beloved by the A-list world of Hollywood.
In a 2005 interview, Lucas opened up to Wired about what he hopes his legacy will be after his eventual death.
“I’ll be remembered as a filmmaker,” he said. “The technological problems that I solved will be forgotten by then, but hopefully some of the stories I told will still be relevant.”
“I’m hoping that Star Wars doesn’t become too dated, because I think its themes are timeless,” he added.
Lucas doesn’t need to worry too much about that, as it seems clear that Star Wars will always stand the test of time. Happy birthday, George Lucas!
