It was previously reported that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s Archewell Foundation had been declared “delinquent” by the state of California for “failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees.” Now, however, the charitable organization is back in “good standing” after rectifying this.

Archewell Now ‘In Good Standing’

“After being in touch with our Registry of Charities and Fundraisers, the organization is current and in good standing,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta’s press office told Fox News.

An Archewell Foundation spokesperson confirmed this, saying that after an investigation, it was found that the charity “remains fully compliant and in good standing.”

“Due payments were made promptly and in accordance with the IRS’s processes and procedures,” the spokesperson added. “Furthermore, all necessary paperwork had been filed by the Foundation without error or wrongdoing.”

This came after official documents showed that Archewell had been declared “delinquent” by the California Registry of Charities and Fundraisers for “failing to submit required annual report(s) and/or renewal fees.”

This reportedly happened because Archewell seemingly failed to pay a $200 annual filing fee after it expired in May of 2023. A source close to Archewell told NBC News that the charity did in fact pay this fee, but the check was lost in the mail, and that they only became aware of this when the delinquency notice was sent.

California Governor Defends Meghan And Harry

California Governor Gavin Newsom defended Meghan and Harry’s charity on Tuesday, saying that the setback that Archewell faced was “typical.”

“I just want folks to know, not only are they in compliance, it was a technical paperwork issue that was wildly over-hyped,” he told Daily Mail.

Meghan and Harry first registered Archewell with the California Registry of Charities in July of 2021, one year after they stepped down as senior royals and moved across the world to Southern California. In their registration summary, they said that the foundation’s “core purpose is to uplift and unite communities – local and global, online and offline – one act of compassion at a time.”

They went on to preach about the importance of “compassion” and bringing about “systemic cultural change,” saying that Archewell “listens to people and their communities, helps them to tell their stories, puts real action behind its words, and spotlights a new generation of leadership.”

Meghan And Harry’s Nigeria Trip

Meghan and Harry just finished a trip to Nigeria, where they promoted mental health for wounded soldiers and the Invictus Games, which the African nation took part in for the first time last year. They had been invited to Nigeria by the country’s chief of defense staff, the highest-ranking military official.

While in Nigeria, Meghan and Harry announced a partnership between Archewell and the Nigerian charity the Geanco Foundation, which promotes mental health awareness and helps young women who have been victims of terrorism by providing them with scholarships.

As you can tell, the notice of “delinquency” for Archewell came at a very inconvenient time for the couple. Find out more about their Nigeria trip in the video below.

Only time will tell if Archewell is able to bounce back from this controversy!
