Country music star Jelly Roll, fresh off completing a 5K race, is now reportedly training to take part in a half-marathon.
Absolutely remarkable!
The “Son of a Sinner” singer, whose real name is Jason Bradley DeFord, tells Fox News that he intends to compete in a half-marathon sometime late next year. But he wants to dust off a few lesser-length races first.
“I’m training as you can train, it’s an 18-month process,” Jelly Roll reveals. “I want to do another couple 5Ks first, so the goal is to half-marathon next fall.”
Jelly Roll Gearing Up For A Half-Marathon
Wow. Could a full marathon be much further behind at this point? Maybe, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Earlier this month, The Mix readers watched as Jelly Roll grew emotional after completing his first 5K run. The 39-year-old singer took part in the 2 Bears 5K, an event hosted by comedians Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura.
A 5K race is just over 3.1 miles. A half-marathon 13.1 miles.
“I couldn’t walk a mile when I started trying to do this back in January,” he said at the time. “So the fact that we got 3-point-whatever it was, got it down, I felt really, really good about it.”
He later admitted that it was a little more grueling than he thought, but still felt good.
“I feel great, I’m a little tired,” he said. “It was a little bit harder than I thought it was [going to be], but it’s awesome, man.”

Enduring The Weight-Shaming
Jelly Roll training for a half-marathon is wild, especially considering he recently felt compelled to leave social media due to the constant negative remarks about his weight.
His wife, Bunnie Xo, defended the country star from those nasty comments, saying, “That makes me want to cry because he is the sweetest angel baby.”
According to the Fox News report, they won’t be able to shame him very much anymore. They report that Jelly Roll “has dropped 50 to 75 pounds” and “continues to shed weight.”
Congratulations, man! I’m not sure this author would be able to finish a half-marathon over an entire week.
At the recent Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards, Jelly Roll was nominated for and won the Music Event of the Year award for his song “Save Me,” a collaboration with Lainey Wilson.
