The Hollywood legend William Shatner celebrated his 95th birthday on Sunday, March 22. To mark the occasion, the former Star Trek icon offered some blunt life advice to the world.

Shatner Turns 95

“At 95, I’m still smokin’!” Shatner wrote on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter.

“I’ve learned two things: Never waste a good cigar. Never trust anyone who says you should ‘act your age,'” he added.

We can’t argue with that!

Shatner posted this advice alongside two photos of himself. The first showed him smiling alongside the ocean, while the other depicted him smoking a cigar on the beach by the water.

Shatner’s History

Shatner is best known for portraying Captain James T. Kirk in the Star Trek franchise. He first began playing the character in Star Trek: The Original Series back in 1966. Shatner went on to reprise the role in multiple movies, last playing Captain Kirk in 1994’s Star Trek Generations

Shatner is a two-time Emmy Award winner who is known for his roles in other television shows like T. J. Hooker, The Practice, and Boston Legal. He’s additionally appeared in other films like Miss Congeniality.

In November of 2025, Shatner gushed that he was feeling “blessed beyond measure with [health], family and a beautiful gathering.”

Before his 94th birthday last year, Shatner opened up about the birthday tradition that he enjoys partaking in every year.

“For the last many years, I have celebrated my birthday by working on a very successful charity called The Hollywood Charity Horse Show,” Shatner told People Magazine at the time. “We have been doing it for 35 years and raised millions of dollars for children and veterans.”

Shatner went on to say that he planned to celebrate that birthday with his family in Las Vegas, Nevada.

“It’s going to be a family experience in that wonderful, entertaining city,” he said. “I’m really looking forward to it.”

When Shatner celebrated his 93rd birthday in 2024, he revealed his advice for staying youthful.

“Just staying engaged in life, to stay curious. But the luck has a lot to do with it in your health,” he explained at the time. “Your life’s energy, the soul energy of your body is a product of health. If you’re sick, you can’t be energetic. You’re dying. So my luck has been, I’ve been healthy all my life.”

Shatner Refuses To Slow Down With Age

Though he is in his mid-90s, Shatner has never shown any signs of slowing down with age.

“I don’t have any secret potions,” Shatner told The Guardian back in 2021. “It must be genetic. I ride a lot of horses and I’m into the bewilderment of the world, so I open my heart and head into the curiosity of how things work.”

Shatner is a true living legend, and there will never be another one like him. We’d like to wish Shatner a very happy 95th birthday, and many more to come.

God bless you, William Shatner!
