Whoopi Goldberg has been the moderator on the ABC talk show The View for nearly 20 years. Now, however, fans are beginning to fear that it might be time for the 70 year-old to step away amidst various “struggles” with the talk show.
Goldberg’s Alleges ‘Struggles’ On The View
A debate was launched on the The View‘s Reddit subforum after someone noticed that Goldberg has been struggling to read the teleprompter lately while carrying out her moderating duties. Though this poster described themselves as being a “huge Whoopi fan,” they also has led them to worry about the former Ghost star.
“I think the producers are doing her a disservice,” the Reddit user wrote. “She’s let be it known she’s dyslexic and it seems that lately she’s been having a really tough time reading the prompter and setting up the stories.”
“This feels like something Brian [Teta, exec producer] and the producers could fix,” the social media user added. “Maybe slow the prompter down or make the words bigger. Also maybe sound out some of the names before going on air.”
Other commenters were quick to agree about Goldberg’s alleged struggles as of late.
“It’s painful watching her struggle with the teleprompter,” one Reddit user commented. “I have a son who has dyslexia so I have mad respect for their plight but it feels stressful watching her mispronouncing names and fighting for her life some days with that teleprompter.”
“Clearly she struggles with reading that teleprompter more and more,” another user commented. “It’s hard to watch, but more than that, I feel bad for her.”
Others Call For Goldberg To Leave The View
While some commenters had sympathy for Goldberg, others feel that it’s time for her to leave the talk show permanently.
“She’s been on autopilot for the best part of a decade,” wrote one frustrated commenter. “Every day delivering the same rambling speeches and doing the fake Valley Girl voice and swinging rapidly between pretending not to care and being so passionate that nobody dare disagree with her. 19 years is a good run. Time to say goodbye!”
“I could not agree more. She’s over the job, probably just hanging in for the money. I wish she would move on,” another added. Yet another social media user wrote, “I wish she would just go back to acting. I adore her as an actress and thought she is a B- at best as a moderator.”
“It’s always been about money, but every year it feels more disrespectful to the show, the topics, and essentially the viewers,” a final social media user commented. “Whoopi doesn’t care at all now.”
Goldberg Claims She Can’t ‘Afford’ To Leave The View
Goldberg infamously made headlines last year when she claimed that she could not “afford” to leave The View. This came as a shock to many, since Goldberg has an estimated net worth of $30-60 million.
“Who can afford to do that? If you don’t marry well, you’ve got to keep working,” she told Entertainment Tonight last year. “I’ve got to keep paying those bills, baby.”
Goldberg made similar comments live on The View in 2024.
“I appreciate that people are having a hard time. Me, too. I work for a living,” she said at the time. “If I had all the money in the world, I would not be here, okay? So, I’m a working person, you know?”
If Goldberg continues to struggle on The View, however, perhaps she’ll decide it’s time to give in and leave the show. Only time will tell how much longer Goldberg stays on The View!
