Whoopi Goldberg is speaking out this week to insist that she wants to be single. This comes after three failed marriage for the Oscar-winning host of the ABC talk show The View.
Goldberg Sounds Off
Goldberg famously previously said that she has no interest in marrying again because she does not “want somebody in my house.” Now, the 70 year-old is doubling down on this in a big way.
“I’m not good at relationships because you have to think about other people,” Goldberg admitted to Interview.
“It teaches you several things,” Goldberg continued, referring to her longtime single life. “Being lonely and being alone are two different things. I don’t necessarily get lonely because there’s enough people around who don’t let me. But most people are not comfortable being alone because we’ve been taught that there’s something wrong with you if you’re not a pair, that being singular, eating singular, is a bad thing.”
“Sometimes you don’t want to eat with other people. Sometimes you just want to go and have some pasta,” the Sister Act star added. “You don’t want to say, ‘Do you want red wine or white wine?’ I don’t give a [expletive] what you want.”
Tell us how you really feel, Whoopi!
Goldberg’s Romantic History
Goldberg has been married and divorced three times. She was first married to the drug counselor Alvin Martin from 1973 until 1979. Goldberg was then married to the Dutch cinematographer David Claessen from 1986 until 1988. Finally, the Ghost star was married the actor Lyle Trachtenberg from 1994 until 1995.
On top of that, Goldberg had longterm romances with the Hollywood stars Ted Danson and Frank Langella. Despite this, she has no intention of ever looking for love again.
“We’re not great at partnerships,” Goldberg claimed. “There are some people who are brilliant at it, but I think we walk into relationships with a lie and say, ‘I’m not trying to change you.’ But in fact, you are trying to change them. I’d rather you say, ‘Listen, I don’t know if I could be true to you. I think I might need more than one person in my life.’ I’d rather hear you tell me that so I can make the decision.'”
‘I Don’t Want Somebody In My House…’
Goldberg has made it clear for quite some time that she’s out of the romance business.
“I think I’m not that interested. I’m much happier on my own. I can spend as much time with somebody as I want to spend, but I’m not looking to be with somebody forever or live with someone. I don’t want somebody in my house,” she told The New York Times in 2016. “I’m the round peg, and marriage is the square hole. You can’t have a square hole, can you?”
Goldberg later doubled down on this in 2019.
“People keep saying ‘Well, you’ll find somebody,'” she said at the time. “I’m not looking for anyone. I am very happy. I don’t want to live with anybody.”
Given the nonsense that Goldberg is spewing on The View these days, we doubt that there’s much interest to date her anyway. In the end, Goldberg remaining single might just be the one thing that we can agree with her on.
Good riddance, Whoopi Goldberg!
