Things got awkward on the ABC talk show The View once again on Wednesday morning when Whoopi Goldberg shut down her co-host Joy Behar for questioning her weight.
Chaos On The View
During yesterday’s episode of The View, the female co-hosts were interviewing the writer and actress Mindy Kaling, who recently opened up about her weight loss journey. They asked her about how the public can sometimes have a negative reaction to celebrities losing drastic amounts of weight.
“I think we feel betrayed,” admitted Kaling, 46. She added that it may be jarring to some to see a star presenting themselves much thinner.
Behar, 83, chimed in to say that “they want you to stay the way they loved you.”
The panel went on to recall the 1988 talk show moment in which Oprah Winfrey wheeled out a wagon filled with animal fat to represent her own body transformation.
“She felt it really was sort of mocking and saying to people, look what I did,” said Goldberg, 70. According to Goldberg, Winfrey ended up regretting doing this.
Goldberg Snaps At Behar
Goldberg then tried to make a point about when she “weighed 300” pounds in the past. Behar could be heard disputing this in the background. This didn’t sit well with Goldberg, who immediately snapped and shut Behar down.
“Yes I did. Joy, you keep saying…” Goldberg said. She proceeded to pause as Behar again denied that Goldberg ever weighed that much. This caused Behar to really lose it.
“Joy, I did!” a visibly frustrated Goldberg exclaimed.
“When was that? Since I’ve known you?” Behar asked. Goldberg fired back by insisting, “When I did [the 2022 movie] Till, I was 279 [pounds], and I looked like five people.”
Behar attempted to lighten the mood and deescalate the situation by turning it into a joke.
“They say black don’t crack? You don’t have anything hanging,” Behar quipped. “How could that be?”
“It’s hanging, you just don’t see it!” Goldberg responded.
From there, Goldberg tried to turn the conversation back to their guest Kaling.
“My point is, people get mad at you because you did something they want to do, but they don’t have the impetus yet,” Goldberg said. “They don’t know how to get it there, resources, it’s all kinds of stuff.”

Goldberg’s Past Comments On Her Weight
Goldberg has addressed her weight on The View in the past. During one 2022 episode, she called out a critic who accused her of wearing a fat suit during her performance in Till.
“I don’t really care how you felt about the movie, but you should know that was not a fat suit, that was me,” Goldberg said at the time. “I assume you don’t watch the show, or you would know that was not a fat suit.”
Goldberg added that while it’s “okay to not be a fan of a movie,” journalists should “leave people’s looks out” of their criticisms.
“Just comment on the acting, and if you have a question, ask somebody,” Goldberg concluded. “I’m sure you didn’t mean to be demeaning.”
Goldberg Uses Mounjaro
Goldberg has since admitting to using the weight loss drug Mounjaro to shed pounds.
“I’m doing that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help and it’s been really good for me,” Goldberg said during a 2024 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “It’s all the weight I’ve lost.”
Though she didn’t reveal the exact number of pounds that she’s lost, Goldberg stated, “I’ve lost almost two people.”

This tense exchange between Goldberg and Behar indicates that there could be some trouble in paradise on The View. It will certainly be interesting to see if this escalates at all from here.
