Former talk show host Wendy Williams has not had an easy go of things the last few years, after her star soared beginning in the mid-2000s.
In the latest news regarding her legal battles, she has fired her lawyer as she fights to get out of her guardianship.
Williams Fires Her Lawyer
Sources told TMZ that Williams, 60, fired her court-appointed attorney Linda Redlisky on Wednesday. Redlisky was let go after she allegedly failed to file paperwork for a trial about whether Williams’ guardianship was necessary when the former Wendy Williams Show host asked her to do so.
This comes after Williams broke down crying about her court-ordered guardianship during a rare interview earlier this month. In this interview, Williams claimed that she’s living in a wellness facility in New York City. However, she alleged that this facility was more like a luxury prison.
“I feel like I’m in prison. I’m definitely isolated. I keep the door closed, I watch TV, listen to the radio and look out the window. Sit here as my life goes by,” she said.
It’s definitely a radical change from just five or six years ago, when she was commanding her own talk show and on top of the world.
Williams Frontotemporal Dementia Diagnosis
Williams went on to allege that she’s “not cognitively impaired,” despite her “care team” announcing that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia in 2023.
“I am not cognitively impaired, but I feel like I am in prison,” she said. “I am definitely isolated. To talk to these people who live here, that is not my cup of tea.
“I keep the door closed,” she added of her day-to-day activities. “I watch TV, I listen to the radio, I watch the window…I sit here, and my life goes by.”
Williams also claimed that she only has “$15” to her name and that she can’t even access the internet at the facility at which she resides.
“This is what is called emotional abuse,” she lamented.
Williams’ Niece Weighs In
Williams’ niece Alex Finnie also took part in this interview and vigorously defended her aunt.
“Anybody that knows my aunt knows she’s always been a unique personality,” said Finnie. “How she’s talking, that’s her. That’s who she is. Don’t try to twist how she is.”
Finnie and another family friend have launched a GoFundMe for Williams. They assured fans that all donations “will directly support Wendy’s legal efforts and cover essential costs associated with her case.”
Finnie claimed that the donations will be used for things like “retaining experienced legal counsel specialized in guardianship,” “covering the costs associated with filing necessary legal documents and motions to challenge the guardianship,” and “engaging medical and psychological experts to provide testimony and evaluations that support Wendy’s case for independence.”
Meanwhile, sources told Page Six that Williams and those close to her fear that the former TV host’s court-appointed guardian Sabrina Morrissey is taking advantage of her.
“They’ve taken everything from her,” claimed one insider close to the situation.

The Wendy Williams Show
Williams hosted The Wendy Williams Show from 2008 until it went off the air in 2021. The show was a huge hit, with Williams becoming known for her blunt takes on the Hot Topics of the day. She was also never afraid to air her own dirty laundry, making fans feel as if she was more of a personal friend than just a TV host.
