The legendary supermodel Tyra Banks has announced that she’s become the latest in a long line of celebrities to flee America and move to another country. While many stars have done this for political reasons, Banks has a very different reason behind her move.
Banks Reveals She Left America
Banks, 51, has confirmed that she’s spent the last 18 months living in Sydney, Australia with her son York Banks Asla, 9, and her partner, Louis Bélanger-Martin. While appearing on Today With Jenna & Friends on Monday morning, Banks opened up about why exactly she made this major move.
“So I have this ice cream company, SMiZE and Dream,” she began. “I was going to Australia a lot because we were making a lot of our ice cream there in a big facility doing our recipes, and I just fell in love with it.”
Banks went on to reveal that Australia actually ranks among the top three countries that eat the most ice cream. The other two are the U.S. and New Zealand. This makes Australia the perfect place for an ice cream entrepreneur like herself to put down roots.
“So I was like, “I’m happy here, and they love to eat some ice cream, so are we gonna do this, family?” And we did it!” Banks gushed.

A Typical Morning In Sydney
Later in the program, Banks showed a “morning in her life” video of herself starting a typical day in Sydney. She began by waking up at 6:30 before enjoying her morning coffee. She then took viewers on a little adventure.
“Sydney has so many beautiful sights, but let me show you one of my favorite places to take my little boo boo, my son,” Banks said. She soon shifted to filming at Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour.
“People come from all over Sydney to enjoy this park,” Banks explained. “They have what we call a little mini water park. There’s swings and stuff for kids. There’s this new place that they’ve built for the bigger kids that you really can’t get your kid away from. So be careful when you come here.”
Banks proceeded to show off various famous Sydney sites, including the Sydney Opera House.
“Look at the water, so amazing. And over there is where my future ice cream dream is going to come true,” Banks added. “Making ice cream has been a lifelong dream of mine, and it’s all happening right here in Australia. This idea is a tribute to my mama, Carolyn.”
“Australia has been a dream come true for me and my family,” she concluded.
