Tom Selleck is preparing to celebrate his 80th birthday next Wednesday. This comes at a difficult time for the former Magnum P.I. star, as he is still coming to terms with the cancellation of his hit show Blue Bloods.

As he gets ready for this milestone birthday, Selleck wants to celebrate it in a touching way. Indeed, his family and friends are his focus as he heads into his eighth decade.

Selleck’s 80th Birthday Plans

“He’s seen and lived through a lot, and he feels rather fortunate to be here to talk about it,” a source told Closer Weekly. “Sure, he wasn’t happy with Blue Bloods getting canceled, but he wants to focus on the positive and ring in 80 with smiles and laughter and not dwell on the negative stuff.”

Selleck will be spending his birthday with his wife Jillie Mack, who he’s been married to since 1987. They share one daughter Hannah, 36. According to the source, some famous faces may be joining them for Selleck’s birthday as well.

Specifically, faces that fans of Blue Bloods are sure to love.

“His wife and daughter are planning a big celebration at the farm with friends over to celebrate Tom and toast to his health and maybe roast him a little, too, all in good fun,” the insider continued. “No doubt, some people from [Blue Bloods] will be invited, like Donnie [Wahlberg] and Bridget [Moynahan], which Tom will like very much. They’re all like family to him.”

Selleck’s Time On Blue Bloods

Selleck starred on Blue Bloods with Wahlberg and Moynahan from 2010 until it sadly came to an end last month after fourteen years of success. The final episode aired on December 13, 2024.

Selleck has been open about just how hard it’s been readjusting to life not filming this show.

“The hardest part for me is we had the Blue Bloods family and we had the actors’ family,” Selleck said last month. “They’re all my pals. I miss them. It’s going to take a lot of getting used to.”

Selleck has also made no secret of his disappointment that CBS cancelled Blue Bloods.

“My biggest goal is to make sure people realize we went out in rather spectacular success,” he lamented. “It wasn’t tired, it wasn’t anything else. Somebody may be able to tell me someday why CBS wanted to end it, but I haven’t had a good answer yet.”

Selleck Is Determined To Keep Working

That being said, Selleck is incredibly proud of his time on Blue Bloods. He additionally has no plans to stop working, even as he turns 80. In the past he has said he’s looking for a new show.

“I’m grateful to say, and the writers continued to see the evolution in the characters and let them grow and change,” he told Entertainment Weekly last month. “Fifteen years is a long time, and you change physically, you change every other way. You’re just older. At a certain point, all those things entered into what I’ll put in my little actor’s handbook and use, because I certainly don’t intend to stop working.”
