Joe Exotic of Tiger King fame has announced that he’s engaged to a fellow inmate as he serves a 21-year federal prison sentence. They are hoping to marry in December.

Exotic To Marry Again

While Joe Exotic was relatively well-known as a cult figure, it wasn’t until the Netflix documentary Tiger King came out that he really exploded on the scene.

“Meet Jorge Marquez he is 33,” Exotic, 61, wrote on social media. “He is so amazing and is from Mexico.”

“Now, the quest of getting married in prison and getting him asylum or we be leaving America when we both get out,” he added. “Either way, I wish I would have met him long ago.”

This will be Exotic’s third marriage. He previously married Dillon Passage in December of 2017. This came just two months after Exotic’s previous husband, Travis Maldonado, died in a self-inflicted, accidental shooting. Exotic and Passage separated in 2020 and filed for divorce the next year.

These days, however, Exotic is happier than ever behind bars with Marquez.

“We filed our official papers for the marriage license from the prison yesterday, so we’re just waiting for an approval,” Exotic told Entertainment Weekly. “He has picked out Dec. 12 as the date we’re hoping to get this approved by.”

‘We Love Each Other Very Much’

Exotic went on to explain that their application “has to be approved by the warden and psychiatry and the chaplain” before their license can be approved.

“We love each other very much, spend every minute of the day together,” he gushed. “I’ve been through some [expletive] in my days. I buried two husbands, the third one ran off with 2.6 million bucks from Netflix and left my ass here, but Jorge is a very amazing young man.”

Exotic became a household name when Tiger King dropped on Netflix back in 2020. By then, he had already been arrested on suspicion of hiring two men to murder Carole Baskin, the founder of Florida’s Big Cat Rescue. She had been a rival of Exotic’s for years.

Exotic was later sentenced to 21 years in prison in 2019 on 17 federal charges, including animal abuse and attempted murder for hire. He’s petitioned for a new trial multiple times, arguing that there was “suppressed” evidence in his favor.

Exotic Claims To Have ‘Tons Of Evidence’

In his latest interview, Exotic said that he has “tons of evidence” that he plans to use to appeal his conviction. This alleged evidence includes “video confessions under oath” of “false testimonies” given in his trial, and “700 phone recordings of federal agents.”

Exotic is looking forward to “solid answers from the appellate court by February.” He then hopes to reunite outside of prison with Marquez, who is set to be released in May.

Exotic’s prison doesn’t allow inmates to use social media. Despite this, Exotic maintains a prolific social media presence.

“How I do this is, I use the phone 50 times a day,” he explained. “My people tell me what’s going on and I tell them what to post… so just about everything that’s posted is posted by me, via a proxy.”

Exotic clearly has some big plans for his future. It will certainly be interesting to see how this turns out for him!
